A/N: Sorry everyone, I took a one week break due to the business with uni work. But now I'm back and giving you a chapter a day early. I'm desperately asking for story ideas haha

Maya's POV

I woke up to the sound of rain tapping against the windowpanes. I snuggled deeper into the covers, enjoying the cozy warmth of her bed. As I lay there, I realized that something was off. It was very quiet. I couldn't hear Olivia moving around in her room, getting ready for school. Carina was off to work earlier, so it was just me and Olivia.

I frowned, sat up and listened more closely. Sure enough, there was no sound of Olivia's usual morning routine. I looked at the clock and saw that usually she was already up at this time. I got up and made my way to my daughter's room, knocking gently on the door.

"Olivia, are you awake?", I called out.

There was no answer, only silence.

I opened the door and peered inside. It was dark, and Olivia was still in bed, covers pulled up to her chin, looking pale and clammy. She was still sleeping, but moving restlessly in bed.

"Olivia, honey, wake up", I whispered gently. "It's already 8 am, are you feeling okay?" I asked, walking over to the bed.

Olivia mumbled and slightly opened her eyes. She groaned, burying her face in the pillow. "I don't feel good, mom. My head hurts, and my throat is sore."

I sat next to her on the bed and pressed a hand to her forehead, feeling the heat radiating from her skin. "Oh, sweetie, you're burning up. Let me go get the thermometer and some medicine for you."

I quickly left the room, returning a few moments later with a thermometer and some ibuprofen. I took Olivia's temperature, which confirmed that she had a slight fever.

"You're definitely sick, Olivia. You need to stay home from school today and rest," I said, handing her the medicine and a glass of water.

The girl didn't take the water, and instead rolled over, pulling the covers up to her head.

"Mom I'm t-tired. And my throat hurts", she cried.

"I know sweetie, but the medicine will help. Just one sip for the medicine Liv", I encouraged.

"N-noo, water h-hurts"

"I know, I know baby girl, but you have to take medicine"

A few seconds later Olivia turned around again and slightly nodded in defeat, taking the medicine while scrunching her face and lying back down. I stayed on the edge of the bed, smoothing Olivia's hair back from her forehead. I could tell she was trying not to swallow since it hurt her throat, which I completely understood. Having a sore throat is the worst part of being sick.

"I'll stay home with you today and take care of you, okay?" I said, giving her a reassuring smile.

"No don't miss work mom for me, I'm 16, I can take care of myself", she mumbled.

"Hey it's okay, don't worry about it. I was going to do paper work anyway, I'll ask Andy to cover for me. You are more important.", I replied calmly.

"But-", she began.

"No honey, don't worry about it. If you want me here, I'll stay, okay?", I confirmed, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.

"Okay", she mumbled with a yawn. "Can you stay?"

"Of course sunshine", I replied, sitting next to her on the bed, my back against the headboard. She turned and laid almost completely on my chest. Her nose was a little stuffy and she breathed deeply and had her head on my boobs. She played with the material of my shirt while I stroked her brown locks. I could tell she was falling back asleep, as her breathing evened and her breaths were deeper.

I shuffled a little to a better position, and I don't know if she unconsciously thought I was leaving, when she whined in her sleep.

"M-mom", she mumbled.

"Shh babygirl, I'm here, just sleep. I'm not going anywhere"

After a while when she had fully settled, I gave her a last kiss on the top of her head and got up from the bed and left the room. I began going through some work papers, and once in a while checked up on Olivia, as she remained asleep.

A few hours later, it was already 1 pm, and Olivia stumbled downstairs and laid back down on the sofa, where she turned the tv on and kept on resting. I stopped working and got her some more medicine and took her temperature again, but unfortunately with no change.

I spent the day taking care of Olivia while trying to get some work done, making her soup and tea, and checking her temperature regularly. Olivia dozed on and off throughout the day on the couch, too weak and tired to do much else. I really hoped this sickness wouldn't last long. Maybe it was only a one-day bug.

As the day went on, I couldn't help but think about how quickly my little girl was growing up. It seemed like just yesterday that Olivia was a baby, cooing and giggling in my arms. Now, she was a teenager, a smart one with her own opinions and interests. And a guy had kissed her at a party, which caused a mix of feelings inside of me. Definitely not my favourite event of the past month. I sighed, feeling a sense of sadness at how quickly time was passing. But I tried to push those thoughts aside, focusing instead on taking care of my daughter and helping her get better.

It was now 5 pm, and I was sitting in the living room with a cup of coffee, Olivia still curled on the couch, now asleep again, her head on my lap, when Carina walked through the door, looking exhausted. I smiled and got up, gently placing Olivia's head against a pillow, and walked to hug my wife.

"Rough day, my love?", I asked, giving her a light kiss.

Carina nodded. "Yeah, it was a busy one. What's going on bella? Is everything okay?"

"Olivia woke up this morning with a fever and a sore throat. She's been asleep almost all day."

Carina's expression changed to one of concern. "Oh no, poor bambina. How is she doing?"

"She's sleeping right now. I gave her some medicine a few times, and she should be better soon"

"Any nausea? Has she been able to eat or drink? What's her temperature?", she asked, the mama worry instantly turning on.

"No, luckily she hasn't thrown up, and she ate a little bit of soup during the day. Not enough though but I blame it on the sore throat", I replied.

Carina put her arm around my shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll take care of her. She's going to be fine."

I leaned back into my wife's embrace. "I know. I'm just always worried", I sighed.

Carina kissed the top of my head. "I know bella. But we're in this together."

Towards the night, Olivia's fever had finally broken, and she was feeling much better than during the morning. Carina and I tucked her into bed, kissing her forehead and wishing her a good night's sleep.

As we left the room, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the time I got to spend with my daughter, even if it was under less-than-ideal circumstances. I knew that, no matter how much Olivia grew and changed, she would always be my little girl at heart.
