No one's POV
It was at the end of the school year. Olivia passed all of her exams with flying colours and got an award from her soccer team for being the best team player of the season. The family celebrated the occasion and the end of the school year in a form of a dinner at their favourite restaurant, which was owned by Vic's parents. Olivia, Maya and Carina had also spent more time together, which was healing for all members of the DeLuca-Bishop family.
Even though the girl was excited that the school year was over, it also brought some difficult feelings and emotions to the surface. Micah had been accepted to Georgetown with a lacrosse scholarship and was participating in a pre-season training camp at the college during the summer, and straight from there, his school season would start. So he would leave for college months early. They really hadn't spoken about a long-distance relationship, even though it was also clear that they were not breaking up. Neither of them had been too nervous to talk about being apart.
As it was the first week of summer break, a bittersweet atmosphere hung in the air. Olivia and Micah sat on the grass of a nearby park, enjoying one of their last afternoons together in the form of a picnic before Micah would leave for pre-training camp at Georgetown. The sun had a warm glow, and the temperature was nice and warm.
The conversation between the couple flowed easily. They enjoyed each other's presence, cherishing these final moments before the distance would stretch between them. Micah's acceptance into Georgetown for lacrosse had brought excitement but also a touch of melancholy. Olivia felt happy for him, as Georgetown was the first top-choice school. But of course, the distance made her nervous. They still had the rest of the week to spend with one another and did plan to see each other every day til he needed to leave.
Olivia had spread the red blanket on the grass at the park, arranging the picnic items while Micah unpacked the food. They sat facing each other, a sense of bittersweetness hanging in the air.
Olivia glanced at Micah, a soft smile on her lips. "Can you believe we're already at this point? It's crazy you just graduated. Dude just graduated high school"
Micah chuckled, his eyes filled with nostalgia. "Yeah, it's crazy how time flies. And you're going to be a senior."
"I'm proud of you for getting into Georgetown, but it's going to be so different without you here. I'm going to miss you", Olivia sighed.
Micah reached out and gently squeezed Olivia's hand. "I'll miss you too, Liv. But hey, we've still got a couple of days ahead of us. And long-distance relationships can work, you know?"
Olivia nodded. "I want to believe that, Micah. But it's scary. I don't want things to change between us."
"We'll make it work."
Olivia's eyes sparkled with a mix of hope and uncertainty. "I really hope so"
Micah cupped Olivia's face in his hands, gazing into her eyes. "We'll stay connected, I believe so."
Olivia smiled, a warmth spreading through her. "Okay."
They leaned in and shared a tender kiss, savouring the sweetness of the moment. They stared each other in the eyes, in which the moment could have felt like hours.
"Should we eat?", Micah suggested.
Olivia grinned slightly, "Yeah"
Later that evening, back at home, Olivia sat at the kitchen table with her moms. They spoke about Micah's achievements and the opportunities that lay ahead for him at the prestigious university.
