"Aubrey..." I hear the faint whisper amidst the darkness. Who's that? I look around and feel my head floating. I want to sleep already, but something about that voice caused shivers down my spine. "Aubrey..." the voice called again, pulling me back from dozing off.

Just then, the scenery changed, and I was, once again, brought into the middle of a cold clearing. Fog enveloped the place and a man with a familiar face held my chin. With that, I felt like crying. For some reason, I knew what he planned to do.

"Aubrey..." he asked, and I refused to look his way as tears formed in my eyes. "Please, don't—" I was cut off when kissed me on the lips and latched his hands on my chest. I couldn't scream. I was also frozen in place.

"Aubrey! For God's sake, it's 7 in the morning already!"

I jolt up to hear the voice of my mother. My eyes opened, and she greeted my sight. She was standing by my bedroom door with her usual frown. Shit, I must've overslept again, and my sister definitely picked the lock. Nonetheless, this is a regular occurrence.

"Yes... I'm awake," I mutter groggily, still half asleep as I sit on the edge of my bed, picking my eyes. I had that nightmare again. It left me shaking on the inside, but I didn't want to look like I was bothered or something. It's far better to shut up and get my shit together.

"You better get your act straight, Aubrey. The ball is happening tomorrow, yet you're still not ready. Remember that you need to attend this year since we're hosting! Also, get ready because your brother's coming. I don't want you to leave a lasting impression to his newly-founded mate!" My mother ranted like she always does. Great, I just woke up, and I'm already being reprimanded and reminded about the upcoming ball already.

I stand up and walk to the door. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever."

Then, I shut it off of my mother's face and lounged on the bed lazily.

"Aubrey! You better start getting ready," she yells from the other side one last time, her eyes probably popping off her skull. I didn't bother answering anymore. I'm so used to this that I barely cared. I'm the daughter of the Beta of this pack, so it's safe to say I'm privileged enough to act up.

"Whatever..." I whisper and I hear her storm away. I took my phone from the bedside table and opened my messages first thing after calming my racing heart. It's best to invite my friends over to welcome my brother, Wesley, home. He's coming home from a month-long trip, and surprise, surprise, he manages to find himself a mate. Wesley's bringing her here today.

[Hey, Wesley's coming home today. You guys want to hang out here?] I texted the group chat.

Hailey and Adam, my two best friends, immediately replied and let me know that they were down. The three of us are practically inseparable. Once I got their confirmation, my mood shifted to a less invigorating one, and I decided to get ready.

I walk to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. I could only sigh at the sight of my morning face. My bright green eyes shone above anything else, though I still look completely average. Meanwhile, my younger sister, Clara, seemed to be my mother's exact replica in terms of wits and beauty—from her slender figure to her tanned skin, she's got it all.

I guess I just got my looks from my father instead. My black long hair, my chubby cheeks, my round face, and my pale skin, all of it is retained from him, the Beta of our pack. Well, except for my height. I don't know why I'm only five-foot flat, but everyone in my family is a lot taller than me! Sometimes, it makes me annoyed just how unfair the Moon Goddess is.

Going back, my fairly average looks didn't help my case since I'm practically the black sheep of this family. They say I'm disobedient, and I get compared to Clara every single day since she's the perfect kid. It sucks to hear it, but it's really nothing new.
