Chapter 13: Act of Defiance

I have never cried so hard in my life unlike last night. My emotions were at an all-time high that I actually fell asleep on the floor. Thankfully, when I woke up this morning, I didn't need to get out of the room because all my needs could be attained in the bedroom. It's safe to say that my first day here wasn't that bad because of this.

It's already 6 in the evening, but my tummy is yet to grumble. After all, I just ate snacks. Maids come and go to check on me, and each time, they bring me food. But what sets the experience apart is his absence. Alpha Parker hasn't stopped by once, bringing me great relief.

However, just when I thought I could spend my night quietly, a knock came on my door. I froze in place, but I had no other choice and walked towards the wooden frame.

I hesitantly opened the door and found myself face-to-face with a girl around my age.

"Alpha Parker requests your presence for dinner." The girl spoke softly, taking a step back and gesturing me to follow her. At that moment, I knew I was kinda screwed...

After what seemed to be minutes of contemplating, I nodded and came downstairs whilst following the girl. My eyes roamed around the huge dining room. I noticed Alpha Parker sitting at the far end of the table, and the seat next to him is set up nicely. After our encounter last night, I wasn't sure how to face him.

Heaving, I walked forward and sat next to the man in silence. I stared at the platters of food in front of me and kept my lips pursed. As I said, I wasn't hungry, but Alpha Parker suddenly scooped a couple of meats and plopped them down on my plate.

"Eat, Aubrey." His deep voice commanded, and I could tell he wanted me to comply.

"But I'm not hungry," I said right away.

I heard him scoff. "Aubrey, what did I say about defying me?"

"I don't know. I must've forgotten," I spat at him, my eyes bearing defiance once again. Those words came out of my mouth without any control, and I never thought that I would find myself regretting this course of action.

In half a second, his eyes turned pitch black as he stood from the table and glowered down at me. "I was lenient yesterday, but not today!" He yelled, and his voice bounced around the walls, causing domineering echoes.

Before I could react, I was already out of the chair and was getting dragged towards the door. His thick arms wrapped themselves around my body as he hoisted me up into the air.

"What the fuck? Let me go! No!" I growled and screeched in protest, flailing around and trying to hit him. However, I was unsuccessful. Eventually, my fear only escalated as he made his way down the basement. What the hell was he planning to do?

"Where the fuck are you bringing me?" I asked and received no reply.

I panicked a little, so as his forearm got too close to my mouth, I sunk my teeth into his skin. "What the—" he mused in disbelief. I clamped my jaw shut even though he paused and looked unbothered. Eventually, my teeth were ripped from his forearm and I was thrown onto a stained mattress. I watched in anger as a cage door closed on me.

"I can't believe you really fucking bit me." Alpha Parker stated as I glared at him. He can't keep me here forever, can he?

"If you were anyone else, you would be dead by now," he added calmly.

"You're an asshole!" I angrily spat, steering his words away and bringing my point to the surface. "Are you going to keep me here all my life, huh?!"

He paused for a moment and chuckled in incredulity. "If I have to, I will."

Angered boiled inside me. "You can't just do that!" I screamed.

"I can, and I will. You will stay down here until you learn how to respect me." With that, he turned back and slammed the door of the basement shut. I wanted to scream at him, but I was taken aback completely because darkness engulfed me and my anger turned into fear.

...

I wasn't sure how much time had passed since there were no windows to let any light inside. Nonetheless, every now and then, Alpha Parker would come down and ask if I was ready to apologize to him.

Of course, each time he asked, I told him the same thing, no!

By now, days have probably passed. Although some maids bring food for me, I refused to eat and went on a hunger strike. It's fine, I can fast. What I can't tolerate is how much of an asshole my mate is.

Whilst humming to the tune of my favorite song, a sudden scream made me halt. The voice came from outside, and I was certain that it came from a girl. I didn't know why, but I felt a tinge of anger upon hearing that.

Does he already have another girl over? So much so for being an obedient mate.

Just then, I heard heavy stomping approaching the basement. Then, the door creaked open. Loud steps that seemed to be caused by high heels came forward, and the lights turned on.

A beautiful lady stood before me, eyeing me up and down from outside the cage. "Aubrey, right?"

"Yeah," I replied nonchalantly, knitting my brows in slight annoyance. Is this Alpha Parker's side chick?

"Sorry about all this." The girl sighed while looking at me.

"About what?" I sarcastically asked.

"I'm sorry that you're locked. Don't worry," she paused and pulled out a pair of keys. I was stunned as she unlocked the steel bars. "You're free now!" she announced.

"Eh?" I audibly muttered, thinking to myself that this was probably a prank. I thought this girl would be bitchy like my little sister, but why was she freeing me? Who is she?

I wobbled on my feet but was able to stand by myself after a few moments. I tried to steady my steps as I walked out of the cage to face her.

"I was only gone for a week, and he has already traumatized you. Jesus... That man is insufferable. I'm sorry about my brother," she grumbled. I looked at her with wide eyes as I was finally able to see her face closer. She looks like Alpha Parker a lot!

"H—He's your brother?" I stuttered.

"Unfortunately," she sighed, frowning at my dirty clothes.

"O—Oh, I see..." I mumbled, looking down as I cursed myself.

"I'm so sorry, Aubrey. I should've gotten home sooner to save you!"

"It's fine. Uhm, did he allow you to release me, though? Wouldn't you get in trouble or something?" I questioned her.

"Don't worry, he did. Look, I know he's an asshole, but he has a soft spot for me sometimes. You're his mate, so he has to have a soft spot for you too. Eventually, he's gonna start feeling these womanly emotions and what not. It's how the mate bond works!" she said gleefully and extended her hand. "By the way, I'm Kyra! Future sister-in-law of yours."

My eyes were pinned on her as I took her hand. "A—Aubrey... Nice to meet you."

She smiled, which instantly made me feel relieved. "Nice to meet you too. Get changed, we're going out!"

"W—What?" My brows knitted. "You mean you want us to hang around?"

"Yes, and don't worry. I'll handle my brother. Let's go! My date is waiting," she said, and I'm already conflicted if we're going to be great friends. Well, even though she's a lot like Hailey, she's still a member of the Blue Moon Pack...

Can I even trust her?
