Chapter 5: Unmated Wolves

"Oh, I just hope he's taller than me!" Hailey cooed from the bathroom. She's getting ready and I'm just waiting on my bed, trying to be careful to not ruin my looks.

"I didn't know you have such low standards," I jested and continued chatting with Hailey.

After a few minutes, Hailey finished her preparation and her gorgeous face and figure shone.

"You look amazing!" I beamed at her, being honest as ever. Aside from Hailey's outgoing personality, her beauty is also one of the factors that make her charming.

"Psh, I know, but thank you for saying that out loud!" She beamed back, giving me a quick wink.

"Whatever..."

After some finishing touches, we finally came downstairs just in time for my family to be ready. Just then, Clara appeared behind us, and my parents instantly gushed over her looks. She was wearing this brown minimalist dress that made her face stand out. It's not that simple, but it's a fit that flatters her slim figure.

"You look great," I told my little sister. I mean, she does look great. She looks back at me and nods, "Thanks. You too."

After receiving some compliments from our elders, we finally went on our merry way. The drive won't take long, but the way there is quite rough. Still, I couldn't care less. All I want is to get away. I hope I find the opportunity to get away.

Eventually, we pulled into an enormous lot and hopped out of the car. This clearing is near the middle of the woods, so it's safe to say that I'm confused. I looked around. There wasn't a ball in sight. However, as I use my sensitive hearing, I can hear the brief sound of a party happening nearby.

"Where are the hot guys?" Hailey joked beside me, but I was too busy looking around to laugh. But just then, we were guided to enter a pretty small pathway that goes even deeper into the forest.

We walked across the forest that stretched ahead, the music getting louder with each step we took. Somewhere along the tree line, I spotted lanterns. I guess that's a sign. Walking down the path, we followed the lanterns, and the sound of the event boomed even clearer.

As we overtook one last tree, another clearing greeted us. My jaw dropped at the view. I feel like we've been transported to another world. There's a party happening here, and a newly-built convention space covers the entire place. This space had to be three times the size of the lot earlier. I looked at the huge crowd of people, only seeing a few mated wolves amidst the mix. I gulped as I looked at the vast number of single werewolves there. Shit, at this rate, it would be impossible not to meet my mate.

Hailey and I shared nervous glances and linked arms as we walked through the crowd. The gazes we received from the male who looked our way were vast. It felt so weird that shivers ran down my spine. Just then, Hailey and I nearly had a heart attack at the sound of a familiar voice.

"Well, hello there, beautiful ladies!"

We turned to the left, and Adam winked at us. He was wearing a dark suit and had his hair cut short. Obviously, he looked as handsome as ever. I greeted him back, and he looked at me softly before complimenting the both of us.

After that, we began to make our way to one of the tables around the corner. We picked this spot because it was the furthest one, so people wouldn't be coming and going our way. I looked around to observe the place. People were laughing, chatting, and swaying to the music. I can never enjoy a place like this. Just then, I turned to Hailey and was rendered surprised upon seeing a weird grimace painting her face. She was sniffing the air around us.
