Parker's POV
After countless days and nights of torture, I've realized the mistake I've done. The Dennis we were keeping wasn't the real one. It was a ploy, perhaps set up by the evil reincarnate himself. I finally cracked the code when I questioned his background, and a few things didn't line up. I've been keeping this man on the brink of death that he broke down and admitted the truth.
Then, when I found out the real reason for these people hurting my mate, I immediately felt nauseated. Still, I knew I had to keep things to myself. For now, the only ones who knew about the truth were me and my Beta. And when someone reported to me that my Aubrey had been taken, things grew even worse. I felt my world crumble.
My wolf, Roger, howled in my head, forcing me to take action immediately.
But it was difficult. For years, I've refused to wallow in my emotions, specifically fear. I've always hid how I felt from everyone. But at that moment, I unleashed the beast and screamed in agony.
After that, I mind linked everyone in the pack. Typically, it will take immense power and quite a bit of time, but because I was distressed, it only took a short while.
"Attention! Aubrey, your Luna, has been taken. I want every warrior and guard in this pack on high alert. We will be searching for the Luna. I want every corner of the earth to be searched. We will not stop until she's found," I growled to the mind link.
I turned to my panic-stricken sister who reported to me what happened and asked, "Did you see anything when she was taken?"
She shook her head and said, "All I saw was a speeding black van! I don't think the car is familiar, but I remember that the license plate only has one solid red color."
With that, I shifted and rushed towards the dungeons. I could see the man who pretended to be Dennis hung against the wall, his face was still a bloody contorted mess. I then shifted into my human form as he said, "Everyone is on high alert, Alpha."
I briefly tipped my head to acknowledge his words and looked at the man before me. I couldn't help but grit my teeth.
"Where is she?!" I growled as I leaped towards the man, my hands making impact with the wall.
He flashed me a curious but weak look. "Who?"
I was about to smash his head into tiny little pieces upon asking that. It's like he's mocking me, the great alpha. I knew for a fact that he knew something. With that, I decided to address him by his first name, and not the name he's been pretending to be all this time. I snatched his jaw and tightly held it, making him groan in pain.
"Hunter, tell me where the fuck is Aubrey before I end up killing you." My words came out directly and I knew he could feel my desire to end his life, but he only kept his head low.
"I have no idea, but poor you..."
As he said those pitiful antics, I couldn't control myself any longer and bashed his head against the wall. His screeching howls echoed as I repeatedly rained punches on him. Only when my Beta pulled me away did I ever stop. "Alpha, please stop! Killing him isn't going to help us find our Luna. If it's the hunters' fault, then we need to keep this guy alive."
Realizing that he was right, I stormed out of the dungeons in defeat. My feet brought me to the bedroom Aubrey and I shared. I found myself crawling to the dresser and taking one of her shirts. I brought it to my nose and her scent eased me out like nothing has ever done before.
...
Days passed, and things only grew worse, both for me and my pack. I've been living in agony with her absence and even found myself contemplating life, whether I deserved to be here or not. As the haunt came back with more hopeless reports, I thought that maybe we had completely lost her, and if that was the case, then maybe I needed to end myself too. For us to be together again, I could do anything.
But I knew I needed to be strong. And so, to ease my anger, I would visit the hunter's cell and torture the shit out of him. Sometimes, he'd spit out information, but most of them, if not lies, were completely unuseful. Nonetheless, I knew I was slowly weakening his shell. Each afternoon, I would send the pack doctors to tend to his wounds so his body could be reset for the next day. But the second I found Aubrey, I would end his miserable life.
As of the moment, I'm sitting behind my desk again. Over the last few days, the state of my once clean office has gradually worsened. Broken picture frames, splintered book shelves, torn papers... All of this was caused by my rage and longing. I am beyond distraught that my actions have somehow become unreasonable. I never thought it would be this painful to lose her.
Now, the only thing left unscratched in the room was my desk and chair. Everytime I sit and think through time, this setup was no help.
Recently, I could also feel the willow of gloom in the back of my head. Roger is in a state of anguish that he hasn't surfaced for quite a while. It's obvious he can't handle losing his mate.
Just then, as I sat in silence, I heard a faint voice calling me.
"Parker?" Aubrey's faint and angelic voice rang inside my head. I stood up in reflex and looked around. "Aubrey?" I called out to her, feeling her presence being so close yet so far. Roger also stirred up.
"Parker!" I heard her voice again. This time, it was more clear, so I knew we were talking through the mate bond.
I felt my tears dripping down my cheeks. "Aubrey? Where the hell are you?!" I asked, worried, angered, and distressed.
Her wails grew louder, and I felt my stomach churn in woe. Fuck!
Then, a hazy image formed around me. It was hard to make out the details, but I could smell rust and saw a glint of an orange light as she laid inside a cage. Her frightened voice called out in my head, "Some men took me! You need to find me! I'm underground in some kind of cell." Her voice was almost frantic. My blood boiled at the thought of my mate being locked away like an animal.
Not planning to waste any time, I immediately asked, "Have you seen anyone since you've been there?"
"Yes! You need to talk to Dennis. These guys... They injected me with wolf's bane!" Her words made my mouth drop. Dennis? Dang it, she still doesn't know the truth because I've been keeping it from her. I didn't want her to worry, but I had to warn her. Dennis might be there with her.
"I'll find you, Aubrey, but I have to tell you one thing..." My rough voice wavered as a loud screech overtook my ears. What the heck is that?
I covered my ears and let the screeching pass. It lasted for about ten seconds and when I pulled my palms away, I felt the daunting realization that Aubrey's presence is no longer near.
"Aubrey?!" I practically yelled., but no one answered anymore and the images disappeared.
Roger then howled in agony. Wolf's bane in the bloodstream was one of the worst pains ever inflicted on creatures like us. The fact that Aubrey was still able to contact us meant that she was counting on me.
"I'll find you, Aubrey." I huffed my impending tears. "I'll find you..."
With that, I stood up from my seat and raced to the dungeons. Fuck this Hunter. This time, I will make sure I get the answers I want from him.
