Although it sounds like a serious underground organization, just like any other pack, the Blue Moon pack is the same species as us. However, there were key differences that makes them stand out amongst the rest. For example, the Blue Moon pack is the strongest pack of werewolves in history. So, every other pack is careful when it comes to dealing with them.

"They're not real, though. Are they?" I chimed in, loudly stuffing the bread in front of me with bacon before I take a bite. I can't even name a single person that has seen the Blue Moon pack or their Alpha in person. To be honest, that pack is more like a legend with all the exaggerated stories and shit. Besides, maybe it's just propaganda. Who knows?

"Oh, they're real, and they're as vicious as the rumors say," my father gravely stated, his eyes locked on my mother.

"But hardly anyone ever sees them. So, how do you know they're even real?" Wesley asked, his voice louder than the rest of ours. Even he seems to agree with me.

"You're mistaken. Plenty of wolves have met the Blue Moon Pack—"

"How come I've never met one?" I cut him off.

"Because they were either jailed or killed," my mother said, her eyes shooting daggers at me. In an instant, I was rendered silent with profound fear. I looked down and pursed my lips. If that's the case, wouldn't it be dangerous?

"They're not coming tonight, are they? They never c—came before?" Clara stuttered, her gaze locking on my own in a look of panic.

My blood run cold at the thought of being in the same area as the Blue Moon Pack. I remembered the stories my friends told me. It was said that the Blue Moon pack tortured rogues, humans, and other werewolves. Some of the stories were too farfetched to be true, but until now, I had always assumed that those weren't true.

"They will be attending the ball tonight," my father revealed, his face pale.

"What?!" I and Clara said in unison. The surprise in our loud voices made my father wince, but he surely can't blame us!

"If that's the case, then I won't go! This is ridiculous. I won't put my life in danger just to please others," I said firmly.

"No!" My father yelled back, his voice causing the table to shake. "You cannot embarrass this pack! We all have to go!"

I grit my teeth in secret. Judging by my father's tone, he surely doesn't seem like he's about to back down.

Bummed out, I only shake my head and we ate in silence. At one point, my stomach churned and I was grateful when a knock cut through the nervous silence.

"I'll get it!" My mother chirped, but her tone sounded forced. We sat in silence as the front door opened and Hailey's smiling face came into view. She must've sensed the tense situation and decided to bail me out of there.

"Hello, fam! Uhm, Aubrey, let's go upstairs so I can get started on your makeup! I have so much work to do. Will that be okay, Mrs. Wright?" Hailey asked my mother.

"Yes. Go ahead and have fun, girls," my mother said and Hailey pulled me away from the table. We reached my room and I shut the door.

"Okay, so what the hell was all that?" Hailey asked. She turned her back to me and proceeded to dump the contents of her makeup bag on the vanity table.

"The Blue Moon pack is coming to the ball."

I watched as Hailey tensed, her back shaking as she froze. "They're coming?" Hailey turned to me and asked that, her eyelids shaking. Judging by her profound frown, I was certain that she was just as scared as me. I nodded with a gloomy gaze.

"What are we going to do?" Hailey asked again.

It took me a few seconds before answering with a shrug. "We're still going to the ball, and we're going to ignore them. I mean, they will definitely stand out, right? You heard the stories. Once you see ugly-looking men with vicious expression, then it's already a sign..." My voice came out strong and clear, which seemed to relax Hailey in the slightest.

"Should we tell Adam?" Hailey quipped with a sad look.

"I don't think we should. He'd try to act protective and probably cause trouble," I stated. It's better to be safe than sorry. Adam is pretty reckless when it comes to protecting others.

"Okay..."

...

After that, Hailey sat me down on the edge of my bed while she worked on my makeup. To distract ourselves, we chatted.

"Aubrey?" Her tone sounded lighthearted.

"Hm?"

"Why are you so against having a mate?"

"I told you—" I started, but Hailey cut me off.

"I just want to know the entire story." Hailey frowned, shaking her head as she wiped something from my face.

I heaved as Hailey's words sent me tumbling back through time. It was a vivid memory. Pre-winter and fall were about to end. The fog coated the city, and I was standing in the middle of a clearing. The grass was dancing, the pine trees were thrashing, and the sound of hauling hooves came running. I could hear my name being called in a slightly gruff tone. I felt my stomach churn as I remembered that sick, perverted face. All at once, the images came rushing forward. His flowing eyes, plump lips, and forceful agenda... It made me hyperventilate.

"Aubrey?! Hello?1" A familiar voice called me from my downward spiral. I felt my head jerk up in her direction and relief flooded over me. "Are you okay? It seems like you paused for no reason! You're making me worried..." she said and I puckered up my head. Shit, it seems like my mind is being flooded by those disgusting recollections.

"Sorry. I can't tell you the story. It's spooky. Just do my makeup or something," I mumbled and after a few shaky breaths, I gathered those memories and shoved them as far away as I could.

"Alright, if that's what you want!"

...

After what felt like hours, Hailey finally stepped away from me and looked all over my stance. She had spent most of the time curling my extremely long hair and putting a bunch of colorful shit on my face. How can other girls exert this much effort for one night? I shake my head at her stunned silence and look in the vanity mirror, a gasp escaping my lips.

My long black hair was curled in large ringlets and flowed down my back like waves of water. Hailey put it in a bow-like pattern on the back, and I had no clue how. The hairstyle was simple but beautiful. I let my eyes wander over my facial features. My eyes no longer looked dull but full of life. A few pops of colors made my eye color stand out.

"You look perfect, darling! But now, it's time for the grand finale!" Hailey exclaimed, beaming so hard I could see all of her teeth. When I looked at her with confusion, she rolled her eyes and shoved my dress in my hands. "Wear this!"

I nodded and came to the bathroom to wear the shoes and dress we picked out yesterday. The pink tone complemented my pale skin and brightened up my makeup. When I finished doing so, I came out and twirled around Hailey, her shocked face making me laugh like an idiot.

"Dazzling! I'm so good at this!" she praised herself instead of complimenting me.
