Aubrey's POV
"How could this be?" I muttered in confusion, feeling like throwing up as Dennis walked around me in a slow, agonizing manner. Upon stopping in front of me, Dennis smiled cruelly like he was Satan himself.
"Take a wild guess..." he muttered, but I couldn't answer. And so, he added, "That boy you caught, it wasn't me. It was my scout, sent to lure you into assurance, making you lower your guards."
My stomach churned in oblivion. "What do you want from me?!"
Dennis flashed a smirk. "It's complicated, Aubrey. If you hadn't gotten away... Tch!" He sneered with a sarcastic smile, which irked me even more.
"You're making a big mistake, Dennis. My mate is the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack," I warned him, hoping he'd realize how stupid his actions were.
Dennis chuckled as if what I said was nothing. "I know that already, kitten."
"If so, then you'll know that he'll come for me!"
Just then, his laugh grew louder. I backed away a little and waited til his happiness died down. He shot me a look, bearing the words, "That's exactly why we caught you. Once your mate dies, your pack will fall."
My teeth gnashed in disbelief. These fucking hunters really have nothing better to do!
My desire to kill Dennis at that moment took over me, but I couldn't move. So, I looked to the right to hide my impending tears.
Just then, I saw in my peripheral vision that his expression shifted. He raced towards me and held my hair. "Ugh!" I groaned and met his knitted brows.
"What the fuck..." he whispered and turned to his back. "You idiots! She's marked!"
A loud bang echoed as Dennis threw a chair towards his men. My eyes propped wide open. Right, I am marked! "S—Sorry, boss. We forgot to check."
"Her mate will find her! Get the fuck out of here!" Dennis yelled and his men scrambled away. He then turned to me with fierce eyes and crouched back down to meet my gaze. "Aubrey, are you marked?"
I pursed my lips for a second and flashed him an agonizing leer. "Yes, and he's coming here to get me!"
He clenched his jaw, stating, "Well then, I guess it's time to finish what we started years ago."
My stomach churned. I somehow got an idea of what he was trying to say. "What do you m—mean?"
However, he didn't answer and only held me against my will. "Let go of me!" I screamed as he untied me. In one swift movement, he tore the rope binding me along with a part of my dress. I couldn't decipher where my strength came from, but the moment I found an opportunity, I lunged myself towards him. I didn't put up a fight as the big one untied me, but the second I was free, I lunged at Dennis. I was able to scratch his face. "Fuck!" he screamed, just in time for the other guards to grab me.
"Shit!" I angrily hissed as both my hands were taken, rendering me frozen.
"Damn you, stubborn werewolf..." Dennis muttered, slowly standing up and wiping the blood off of his face. "Fine, I will deal with you later. I just lost interest, you fuckface."
After listening to his words, I was somehow relieved. Although Dennis might be planning on continuing with his evil advances later on, at least I would be safe for now. The guards who held me yanked my body away from them, hissing as I fell to the ground.
"Bring her back to her cell. I don't wanna see her ugly face," Dennis commanded and the guys nodded. However, before they could even grab me, the loud ringing of Dennis' phone took over the room. Since his phone was stupidly on speaker mode, I could hear their exchange.
"What is it?" Dennis asked, and the other line briefly said something about an incoming attack. Ariana's ears perked up, and so did my stance.
"Shit," Dennis mumbled and dropped the call. Then, he turned towards me and the guards that were about to drag me away.
"Hold it for now," he stated, and the guards confusedly asked, "Is there something wrong, boss?"
Dennis looked down with a heavy sigh. "Source picked up that the alpha of the Blue Moon pack is on the way. We need to move."
...
After discovering that Parker was on their way, Dennis decided to temporarily put me back in the cell for a while so they could start packing to abandon this God-forsaken place.
I was crying in the corner of my cell when one of the guards came over and dragged me away like I was a sack of potatoes. "What the---Let me go!" I screamed as I put on a fight because I wanted to delay them. Maybe this way, Parker would reach me on time. I tried to swing at the guard, but before I knew it, he had injected some sort of syringe into my neck.
"This fucking wolf girl is strong, eh?" I heard his comment, and I whimpered in pain as my vision grew blurry.
"F---Fuck you!" I cursed at him before I passed out.
Almost automatically, I was engulfed by darkness and numbing pain.
Later on, when I gained consciousness, I was in a different place. No, this isn't a place. Even with the blindfold covering my eyes, I could tell that I was inside a moving vehicle, two guys strapped beside me like I was a guarded item. Damn it... This could only mean that Parker didn't reach me in time.
I can only hope he'll be able to find me again.
Nonetheless, I have my trust in him. I know he can do it, so for as long as I need, I should be strong.
