Alpha Parker's POV
With my eyes bearing immense rage and disappointment, I stared into the empty cell. Aubrey wasn't there, only her scent lingered through the air. "S—She's gone..." my voice cracked as I realized the truth. This can't be happening. We went here on time. We immediately moved out, so how could the enemies predict that we were about to come?
Just then, my Beta held my shoulders and snapped me out of my misery. "I'm sure they only left recently. The Luna's scent is still here."
I nodded and inhaled a deep breath upon hearing Gabriel's words, He's right. Turning to my warriors, I asked, "Are any of you here skilled at tracking?"
They looked at each other as a man stepped forward. "Yes, Alpha. I'm from unit 374, tracking specialist. Please, let me take a look," he said, so I gave way and he crouched down next to the empty cell. As he did what he had to do, I looked at Gabriel and ordered, "Go back to the mansion and torture more information from the hunter. Mind link me when you find anything useful."
"Yes, Alpha," he answered and turned around. I shifted my gaze back to the tracker who walked inside the empty cell. He was carefully and skillfully skimming through the surroundings like a real lap dog. I could do this too, but my frustration right now would probably cloud my judgment. After about a minute or so, he propped up and turned to me.
"They're currently driving away, Alpha. Although it might seem difficult to catch up, if we're fast enough, we may be able to find her."
"Then let's go!" I yelled and all of us abandoned the place. The tracker took the lead, and I kept myself behind his tail. When we turned notches of a couple corridors, we came across a massive room. I could tell that this was their leader's office, and the fact that I could smell my Aubrey here meant one thing... I clenched my fist in anger.
"She was in here, wasn't she?" I asked the tracker who stopped beside me. He locked gaze with me, gulped in fear, and nodded with absolute sureness. I could only growl at the thought.
"Let's go, Alpha. We shouldn't waste anymore time. Besides, I'm certain of one thing. She's still alive..." I heaved and tipped my head as I led the way outside the abandoned building.
We reached the road and everyone looked around for a moment to see if there were potential signs of Aubrey's presence. "Do you think they headed left?" I asked the main tracker.
He shook his head with an eager face. "No. Her scent is stronger on this part of the road." He pointed to the right lane and added, "My guess is they're headed out of town with her. We're gonna have to shift so we can catch up."
I nodded at him and let Roger come forward in the next moments. I slowly shifted to my wolf form and gave in to the changes of my physical body. Though others might think it could cause immense pain to change from time to time, it was rarely the case, especially now that I was determined to find my mate.
As I shifted to my wolf form, my men did the same, and we stretched a little for quite a while. Just then, Roger's ears perked up as I picked up the Beta's voice through my head.
"Alpha, Hunter revealed that they have a safehouse!" He informed me right away.
I knitted my brows, asking, "Where is it?"
"He didn't specify, Alpha. He just said that they would be coming for us and that there were many of them."
I was piqued by what I heard, but I knew I should at least keep my cool for now. "Torture that motherfucker. Make sure you get whatever information you can from him, but make sure he doesn't die in your hands. I want to kill him myself."
He hemmed in agreement, and I added, "Also, inform the rest of the warriors and tell them to prepare for a battle. I want everyone to be gathered and ready. Anyone who is capable of fighting may join and those who aren't shall be kept safe. I'm sure if the enemies are planning to attack, they will go after the weakest first. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Alpha."
After that short conversation, we disconnected and went through with our duties.
I needed to focus on obtaining Aubrey back before things were deemed too late. It isn't a guarantee that a war will start because of this, but as the Alpha, I need to prepare for the worst. Besides, I plan on wiping out Dennis' entire group anyway.
They have to owe the consequence of their actions. Too bad they chose to go after me. If they kept their usual divulge of targeting rogues, maybe I won't give a damn. But things are rather different now. They are planning an attack on my entire pack and even took my Luna.
Their sorry asses have grown too bold. I can't accept this.
"Everyone, make sure you preserve your strength because we're going to be running for a while," the tracker told everyone and we began our journey after a short while.
...
For hours on end, we ran throughout the outskirts of town. The tracker was sure that we were headed in the right direction, and not once did I question his abilities. With each passing hour I felt new strength flow through me. They would not get away this time.
As I ran with my best men, my Beta's report came in. "Alpha, the warriors and citizens just arrived in our safehouse. We promise to keep everyone safe. Besides, there's quite an army here."
I huffed in acknowledgement. "Okay. Please, make sure everyone has a place to rest and food to eat. Extend my deepest apologies and tell them we are doing everything we can."
"Yes, Alpha. Uhm, Also... Hunter said one more thing," my Beta's voice wavered with hesitation, so I puckered up my lips.
I growled, quite impatient. "What is it?!"
"He said that you should be prepared because they know you're coming."
