Aubrey's POV

As sunlight hit my lids, I propped up in panic. "No!" I screamed in fear, thinking I was still in the cell, and maybe they were about to burn me. However, as I looked around, I realized that I was back in the mansion, right here inside the room I share with Parker.

Almost immediately, his citrus scent filled my nose, slowing the beats of my heart. Then, I moved on from hyperventilating as I looked to my left. There, Kyra and Mary stood with crying faces. Another girl also stood beside them. I think her name was Clara.

"Welcome back!" Kyra was the first to break the silence, and the two of them hugged me in unison. Though it felt kinda painful, I didn't mind. I honestly missed them.

They asked me questions after questions and constantly apologized for the next seconds until I pulled away, saying, "It's all good, girls. I missed your craziness."

The two smiled at me in their teary eyes and I looked at Clara, who seemed interested in saying something. "H—Hi, I'm Clara. I'm happy to see you okay, Luna."

I smiled back at her. "It's great to finally be back," I said and looked behind them.

Mary seemed to have read my thoughts and said, "Don't worry. Mr. Parker's on his way, Aubrey. He's just chasing down a lead."

I nodded in understanding. After all, I knew Parker had to deal with Dennis. "By the way, how long have I been out?"

Kyra grimaced, her sorry expression returning. "You were out for two days. When they brought you in, it actually looked like you were going to stop breathing. You were so sleep deprived that everyone felt scared..."

I held her wrist and flashed her a gentle gaze, the one that says "Everything is fine."

Just then, my stomach rumbled, making the three of them chuckle.

"Oh, shit! Here, you need to eat right now. I almost forgot..." Mary said and brought the tray over to me. I looked at the mouth-watering food in front of me and couldn't help but dig in.

I don't know if it's because I'm hungry or something, but this is the best porridge I've ever eaten. The three girls watched me eat, so I began to start up a conversation. "So, how are things here? What's going on?"

I briefly remembered that when we got back here, I felt more presence and heard more noise. It's as if guards outnumbered the citizens, who some I've just seen recently.

Kyra frowned, saying, "Well, Parker's preparing for a war."

My eyes grew wide. "W—War?"

Clara nodded with knitted brows. "Yes, Luna. It turns out that the hunter they captured talked and revealed that the hunters are planning to attack us."

I grimaced at the thought. How could those humans be so bold? "But... How can those hunters stage an attack on a pack this size? There's not enough of them, and they're humans!"

Nodding with ease, Kyra revealed, "They have rogues on their side. If they defeat us, those hunters promised the rogues that they'd get a piece of our territory."

I hemmed at how ridiculous their plan was. "The rogues believed that bullshit?"

Clara laughed in sarcasm. "Well, there's a reason why they're rogues. They aren't the brightest kinds of werewolves."

I tipped my head in disappointment. Panic wormed through my heart and made it hard for me to breathe properly. "If that's the case, what are we supposed to do?"

Kyra held my shoulder to bring me ease. "Have no worries, our Luna. There are thousands of warriors out there to protect us." She pointed towards the window, and Clara walked over to pull the curtain away.

There, I saw men in their armors coming and going. The numbers tripled from the last time I saw the vicinity that I somehow felt relieved. "That's good. I want everyone to be safe," I muttered to myself and suddenly heard Parker's voice through the bond.

"You awake, my beautiful mate?"

A gentle smile seized my lips, and I talked to him through the bond. "Yes, where are you?!" I whined, but I just heard him chuckle.

"Sorry, I was out to deal with something, but don't worry, I'm coming. Stay there and be careful, okay?"

"Okay, babe. I love you..." I teased, and I felt his ears perk up.

"Babe, huh? I like how that sounds. I'll be there soon. I love you too, babe."

His reply came through and the mate bond cut off. I couldn't help but chuckle like a teenager. I then turned to the girls and saw them looking at me with thrifty smiles. "Flirting through the bond, huh? Have some respect!" Kyra pouted and I laughed heartily.

"Whatever, Ky!" I said, and they began teasing me about Parker while I slowly stood up.

"So, I see you've come through, huh?" Mary stated with a smile, and Clara added, "I totally ship the two of you, Luna! You look really great together. When are you getting married? How about kids? Have you ever talked about those?" Her innocent question made me laugh, but Kyra howled in disgust. "Ew! Please, don't talk about my brother's sex life here."

I then walked to the bathroom with surprisingly more energy than I thought. I kept the door open so I could keep talking to them while washing my face. "Well, I'm open to the idea of having kids. I just don't know if he'd want any. I mean, I guess that's a given, no? After all, he's an Alpha." I paused and applied soap on my face.

However, no one answered my words. Keeping my eyes closed while I was off the remaining soap, I asked, "So, what do you think, guys?" I asked and patted my face with a dry towel. Still, no one answered me.

Just when I grew confused as I opened my eyes to look in the mirror, one of them appeared behind me. She had a fierce look, something I have never seen before. Then, when I was about to ask her what the problem was, she stabbed me with something.

My whole system shut down, and I immediately collapsed on the floor, bearing disbelief.

"W—Why?" I asked, looking up at her before dwelling in the darkness.
