Dear whoever is reading this,
My name is Rilenne Viveca Winston (Riley if you please) and I'm am writing this to the future. The words in this journal are my last words to have ever been written on this Earth for I am to die. The monster has decided to send my father, my step-monsters, and myself to her hometown in Sundance, Florida. This is my death blow because I cannot survive in the terrain. I have been born and raised in Breckenridge, Colorado for my whole life. I am basically part of the Rockies. YOU DON'T PUT A MOUNTAIN ON A BEACH. I sign this for the last time,
Riley Winston. And so my journal began. I pulled a suitcase out and threw it on the bed aggressively. Why? Why couldn't my dad just give up custody so I could live with my mom year-round? I pulled open the drawer of my wooden dresser and rummaged to the bottom. I found the only pairs of shorts that I owned; they added up to five. I threw the drawer back into its place and stomped over to my suitcase. I smashed the shorts into the bag and stomped over to my closet.
"Honey, you're still coming back. Just not until the Fall." My mom's voice sounded from inside my door frame.
"Mom. I have to spend a whole Summer with the Monster and my step-monsters. Not to mention Dad."
"Riley. He is still you're father, show him some respect. Not to mention, you used to love going to be with him."
"Yeah, when he wasn't married to that monster. Not to mention he lived in Denver. It was still the same state at least."
"Stop calling Daphine a monster. She's your step mother. Sure she has some... flaws, but we all do."
"Even you can admit that she's got issues! Not to mention Dad wishes that Sadie and Dylan were actually his kids instead of me. It doesn't hurt anymore though, I sometimes wish I had a different dad. You know, one who remembered I exist."
"Don't say that! If he didn't love you or not know you existed, he would give up custody. But he hasn't. He cares. Now finish packing, without breaking everything, and then we can go out for ice cream."
"I'm not five, you can't bribe me with ice cream. But that's pretty hard to turn down. Fine I'll finish."
My mom laughed and went downstairs, I sighed and leaned against the wall. My step-siblings Sadie and Dylan lived with my father and Daphine year-round, their real dad had died in a car crash and mine had accepted them as his own. Sadie and Dylan were twins, they were both fifteen. Like me.
I bent over my suitcase and my reddish-brown hair surrounded my face like a curtain. Two hours and two suitcases later, I had packed all of my clothes. They were all thick for winter so I would definetly need some new summer gear when I got down there.
I pulled my neff hat over my head and put a vest over my plaid shirt. I grabbed a pair of boots and pulled them over my leggings. I ran into the kitchen and found my mom, "I seem to remember ice cream being promised."
"I believe there was a promise. Let's bounce."
"Can I drive?"
"No."
"You see this? It's a permit so yes I can drive."
"Riley."
"Please? There's no snow on the ground! And my birthday is in three weeks... that's when I can take the test."
"Ugh. Fine, but if you kill us-"
"You'll kill me again in Heaven."
My mom grinned, "You know it."
I smiled, I would miss her so much.
