I opened the cupboard and dust flew out... again. "You know, I'm really done with dust." I crawled out. I straightened my back and looked around. "Whoah." I muttered. The room was a cream color. It was empty except for some spiderwebs. I was at the top of the tower that my room was in. I walked over to the one large window and tried to push it open. It wouldn't budge, I finally looked down and realized that you have to lift up to open it. I mentally face palmed and opened the window.

It was a gorgeous view. You could see the ocean front and a little of the main town. There was a small window seat in front of it and I honestly felt like Rapunzel... Without the hair. I smelled a sea breeze. It was beautiful. I closed the window and looked around for other things in the room. I found a broom. I began knocking down webs and sweeping away dust. I whistled while I worked.

I heard my name being distantly called. I hurriedly threw down the broom and climbed in the dumbwaiter. I slid down and hopped back out in my closet. I slapped the sticker back on and ran back into my room. I threw myself onto my bed and grabbed my book and headphones. I threw my headphones into my ears (without plugging them into anything) and opened my book.

What felt like two seconds later Rick opened my door. "Hey, dinner's here. Do you have dust in your hair?"

"Nah, just.... dry shampoo! And okay, I'll be right down."

I stood up and walked downstairs, I wasn't hungry... or maybe I just was willing to sacrifice in order to not see the monsters and their leader. I got downstairs and saw Daphine standing there with the monsters. Daphine gave me a smile but I could see dislike in her eyes. "Ri!" Ri? She forgot something like... idk, the ley?! My name is Riley!
"Um... Hey, Daphine."

"Call me mom."

"Thanks but you're not really my mom so..."

"I thought your mom was dead. Isn't that why you're here now?"

"No. My dad still has custody so I just live here for the summer."

"Oh. Then why didn't you give up custody?"

"She's still my daughter."

"Well you actually have one daughter who lives here year round. Why do you need another one?"

She talked about me as if I were an object. "Okay so, I heard dinner was here?" I was attempting to break up the conversation and save Rick's butt. I knew that he would eventually fall to Daphine's vile persuasion and physical force.

We were pulled into the kitchen. I sat down at the glass table and sighed. For dinner there was a salad. And a tiny piece of smoked salmon. "Do you have any like... bread?"

"No. That's rude to ask."

I looked at my dad for help but he just stared at his plate. I sighed, this sucked. I looked at Sadie. Her blonde hair was pulled back and had loose curls coming from her ponytail. Her outfit was a pink skirt with a white baby tee. She had a distinct style preference. I looked at Dylan, he had ankle socks with a Nike sign on them, a jersey on, and athletic shorts. His blonde hair was spiked up. I looked around the kitchen. There were pictures of their family together and not one of me. To the normal person, it would appear that I didn't live here.

After our small dinner I went up to my room and locked the door. I pulled on some soft plaid shorts and a t-shirt. I brushed my teeth and put my hair in a braid. I opened my window and sniffed the air. It smelled like the ocean.

I pulled myself back and went into my closet and pulled off the sticker. I crawled back into the dumbwaiter and went into the new room. I swept the floor. I turned around and saw a few items of old furniture. How had I missed that?! I looked over them. A few cobwebs were there. I pushed them off with my broom.

I stood back. I had thought of something. How had all of this stuff gotten up here? There was no way it had fit in the dumbwaiter. I pulled the few pieces of furniture away from the wall and found a door. I pushed it open and saw more dust. There was only darkness. I blindly walked in. I continued to stumble until I hit a solid surface. Along the wall there was a latch and a handle. I undid the latch and pulled the handle. It appeared I was in my attic. I had come out of a bookshelf. "Well isn't Florida just full of surprises."

I almost explored more of it but my phone buzzed in my pocket. Someone was calling me. It was Rick. I hurriedly ran back into the tunnel, closed the bookshelf, and picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Hi Rilenne."

"Hey dad."

"Why aren't you answering your door?"

Initiate minor heart attack, "Sorry I'm listening to music really loud in my closet. I'm unpacking. I'll be right there." I was inside the room. I slid in the dumbwaiter and back into my closet. I hopped to my door and unlocked it to see Rick. "Sorry about that."

"You're fine. I know that living here is probably...different."

"Yeah."

"But I'm sure you'll love it. I know you and Sadie are like best friends so you already have friends here."

"Something like that."

"And you have a family that cares about you tons."

"Mmmhmm. Thanks I guess."

"Sleep well Rilenne."

"You too dad. Hey, I was thinking I would go check out town tomorrow."

"Awesome! You can go with Sadie. Goodnight Rilenne."

He walked away. Glorious, now I would be spending time with one of the monsters. I sighed and went to shower, I had tons of dust and spiderwebs in my hair

Once I had handled that, I closed my door and shut out my lights. I was tired but I couldn't fall asleep. Why was I hiding my tunnels from Rick? I knew that answer. It didn't seem like something you would share.... at all.

What would I use this new room for? I mean, who just has a room like that and doesn't use it! I thought for a moment. I didn't have much use for it. I could just make it like my secret corner. I could put books in it, cushions, pillows, fairy lights, candles, and bring my laptop in there to watch a movie. I liked it.

Would I just keep calling it 'the room'? No, It needed a name. I could call it the tower.... no, my tower. I chuckled, I probably sounded like a dork. Nonetheless, I was calling it my tower.

I lay there and reveled in my discovery. I would need a picture to cover the dumbwaiter. I smiled, stuff like this didn't happen in Breckenridge. I chuckled again,"What will be my next mystery?" I said to myself. That word.
Mystery.
Mystery Girl.
The Main Street Shops.
My Skateboard.
Skate.
Skater Boy.

That seemed like it had happened yesterday! Not to mention I had been on a plane that morning! I paused, I had just realized how tired I actually was. I fell asleep with many things on my mind but one topic stood out the most clearly. What was skater boy's name?
