Rick pulled into a driveway that went up a slight hill. We drove up to a blue house. I pushed open the door and grabbed my bags. The house was of a larger size. I followed Rick into the house. The entry way was really modern, everything was gray and blue. Rick tapped my shoulder, "The rest of the family is registering at the high school. I"ll show you your room."
I nodded and followed him. I wonder what Sadie decorated our room like. I followed Rick up some stairs and down a hallway. There were four bedrooms. "So one of the rooms is an office. Each room has its own bathroom." I passed the master bedroom, it was lilac with tons of plush pillows and blankets. I passed what I assumed was Dylan's room. It was navy blue with lacrosse and football stuff littered about. Next we stopped in front of my future room. It was pink and white all over. She had a bunk bed with a desk under it. Did she expect me to sleep on the floor?
I sighed and walked in. Rick grabbed my shoulder and stopped me. He nodded to the end of the hallway. I gave him a quizzical look but still followed him. At the end of the hallway there was a small staircase that led up to a room in the tower. It was an ocean blue color with a queen sized bed. The bedspread was a soft yellow. I loved it. There was a small deck and it's own bathroom. The bathroom was a peach color. I looked at the closet. It was a walk in and there was more room at the end.
I looked at Rick. "Wasn't I supposed to share a room with Sadie?"
"I just said that Daphine wanted you to."
"Oh. So this is mine?"
"Yeah. You don't have a t.v. like Sadie and Dylan though. That was the compromise."
"I don't need a t.v. Thanks Dad, I love it."
"Well that's good. The house was built in the victorian age so there are towers and the like. Oh! I almost forgot! The others went shopping for furniture awhile ago. Here's... hmm. Do you think 800 is good enough? Nah, let's go 1000. That should get you enough. If you have extra, get yourself some clothes or something."
He handed me his credit card. 1000 dollars to furnish my room?! I smiled, "Thanks Dad. I'll get some stuff. How far is the nearest town?"
"Just down the street. Do you need a ride?"
"Nope, thanks though."
I ran over to my bed and grabbed some jeans and a vans t-shirt. I ran to my bathroom (it was pretty large) and changed. I threw my hair into a messy bun and put on my red vans. I ran into my room and grabbed my board. I grabbed my wallet and put the credit card in it. I shoved that and my phone into my pocket. I ran down the two flights of stairs and into the light blue kitchen. I saw Rick, "Hey Dad? Can you pick me up when I call you? If I have heavy stuff I'll need help getting home."
Rick looked up and then looked at my skateboard. The bottom had graffiti on it. I turned it upside down. "Well, sure. Do you know how to ride one of those?"
"Yeah! It's my favorite. Next to snowboarding."
My dad nodded and I ran outside. I put my board on the ground and stepped on it. I pushed off. I went down the hill of our driveway and I felt the wind on my face. I loved it.
I continued down the road. Once I got close to town people started to show up. I kept going until I reached the center. It was a ton of storefront shops, just like in Breck. I stopped my board and kicked it up into my hand. I began walking along the sidewalk. I saw a store with plush pillows and such. I walked in. I bought a ton of blankets and yellow and blue pillows. I put them in the bags. I put my board in one of the bags as well. I continued to walk along and buy furniture. I asked one of the shopkeepers if I could keep my stuff there until I was done walking around. She nodded and showed me their back room. I put everything there but my skateboard. I began walking out of the store when I heard the shopowner try and get my attention.
I walked over. "Are you Mr. Winston's daughter?"
"Yeah... I'm the newish old one, I guess."
"You look just like him, that's how I knew."
I smiled and thanked her again for letting me use her back room.
I walked outside and put my skateboard on the street, I began to skate. I looked down at the road as I skated. Did I really look just like Rick? I wasn't sure I wanted to. For mostly every kid with divorced parents that I knew, the parent that got remarried first was generally the less favored one. As was the case for me.
I continued to think. I looked at my feet again. I heard someone running and I looked up. At the exact moment that I collided with another person.
