He grinned and we stood up. "Finally! II'll eat some real food! My step monster only feeds us these teensie, little portions and she just expects everyone to eat them. I mean, you should see the size of these- Logan?" He had been looking at me really strangely. "Riley, I know somewhere that we can get food and have fun."
"Chucky Cheese's? I REALLY hope not."
"Nope, there's a party that I was invited to and I was wondering if you'd be my date."
I was stunned. Had he just asked me out? As much as I wanted to deny it (and believe me I did) I really liked Logan.... as more than friends.
"As friends." He finished his sentence. Well consider my previous hopes shot down.
I plastered a smile on my face, even if I wasn't his official date it would still be fun. If I liked parties or you know, knew anyone here!
"I'd love to but no."
"What?"
"I'm not going."
I put my hands on my hips and stared him down. "Please?" He asked
"I'm not a 'party' person. No."
He pouted, "Pretty please?"
I rolled my eyes, "The physical appearance of the 'please' makes no difference."
He sighed, "Fine."
I smiled smugly. Logan began walking towards me, I wonder where he was going. The next thing I knew he had picked me up and thrown me over his shoulder, "Logan! Put me down! Put me down right now or so help me I will...."
He laughed, "Or you'll what?"
"Call the police and tell them that you're kidnapping me. Put me down!" Please don't put me down, I thought to myself. I liked it for some reason.... What the heck Riley! Pull it together!
"You wouldn't."
"Oh I would."
"Still don't believe you."
I sighed, "Smart boy."
He laughed and began to walk. I sighed and put my elbow on his shoulder; resting my head in my hand. I couldn't believe he could just carry me like this! I realized that there was one question I hadn't asked, "Logan?"
"Mmhmm?"
"How old are you?"
"I turned seventeen in May." He was way older than me!
"Wait, what grade are you going into?"
"I'll be a junior."
"Oh."
"How about you? How old are you?"
"I'm only fifteen but I'll turn sixteen on the eighteenth. I'm going to be a junior as well. I'm really young for my grade."
"Aw. Little baby Riley."
"Shut up."
"Be nice to your elders."
"I hate you."
"You're mean."
"But you love me anyways."
"Indeed I do." He put me down and opened the car door for me. "Need a ride? Or you could go home and just sit there wondering what you could've been doing if you had listened to that charming, dashing, naturally funny and good-looking, Logan boy."
I smiled,"He's humble too."
"So humble. What's your choice?"
I sighed, walked over to my skateboard, and grabbed it. I walked back to Logan's car; throwing my skateboard in the seat behind me. I buckled my self in and crossed my arms. Logan closed the door and walked over to the driver's seat. He started the car and put it into reverse.
"If you kill us, when we get up to the gates of heaven, I am SO telling the angels that you murdered me."
He laughed. I continued to talk, "We have to go to my house first."
"Why?"
"I have to sneak out or else I won't get the full teenage experience... that and I sort of, kind of can't disappear for the night without a trace. I can jump out the window, can you catch?"
He looked concerned and I sighed, "I suppose I'll just grab a rope."
He laughed and I have him directions to my house. Once we were there I showed him that he could park at the bottom of my secret window. I told him to wait and I ran inside.
The family had been eating dinner. I told my dad how I wasn't really hungry and that I didn't feel very good so I was just going to go to bed. Dylan had asked where I had gone and I told him that I had gone to check out a park that I had seen. They nodded and my dad told me to feel better soon!
I ran upstairs, threw my skateboard on the bed, and changed into a pair of leggings, a pink jacket with Aztec designs on it, a white tank top underneath the unzipped jacket, and some high top converse. I threw the hood up on my sweater-like jacket just to fit into the sneaking out scenery and went into my bathroom. I put on the littlest bit of mascara (hey I was going to a party, I had to step outside of my box) and pulled my hair out of its ponytail and let it fall down in loose waves. I pulled it to the side and put my hood back on.
Once I was back in my room, I went to my bed and put pillows in place of my body. It was the oldest trick in the book but I had nothing better to do. I put a sign outside that said 'do not disturb' and closed the door.
I went up the dumbwaiter and up to my window. I had snatched a long piece of rope from the garage and tied the end into a hoop, like a lasso. Then I threw it out of the window and it landed on the ground. I tied the top end to a couch leg and tugged, it would hold. I breathed in and swung my legs over the ledge,; gripping the rope with white knuckles.
I lowered myself until I reached the ground. I grabbed the end that was tied in a circle and latched it onto the branch of a tree. It was less obvious to see now.
I turned around and saw Logan's truck. I knocked on his window and he rolled it down, "You changed clothes."
I shrugged, "Every sneak-out needs a hood. Get out of the car."
"What? Why?"
"They'll hear the engine, we have to push it until we're at the street." And that's what we did. Once we were far enough, we hopped back in and Logan drove down the hill and straight through the main part of town. It was comfortably quiet but I had a question to ask, "Hey Logan?"
"Yes Riley?"
"It's a weird question, I'll warn you."
"Hit me."
"Do you know a kid named Parker?"
"I hope you're not talking about the one who plays lacrosse."
"I am, why are you mad?"
"I'm not. We had a few classes together, he's trouble Riley. I'd keep your distance."
"You seemed like trouble-excuse me, you are trouble too."
"I'm good trouble."
"Good trouble?"
"Yes."
Parker was cute too and he seemed to have a great personality. I wasn't sure if I liked him too... I didn't think so. We pulled up to a spot on the beach that was covered with lights and teenagers. It was a beach party.
I sighed and looked at Logan, "I really don't want to be here."
"I know, are you scared?"
"No. I'm never scared."
"I know you are a little scared. But don't worry II'll keep you safe."
"I won't need it."
He grinned and leaned in, "Nonetheless, it's a promise I intend to keep."
