I sat next to Dylan. "Fancy seeing you here." Dylan said without looking at me.
"Yeah... Did Daphine let you come?"
"Uh-huh. She made me. Mom is really into Sadie and I getting a," He made air quotes with his fingers, " 'significant other with whom we can share our life.'"
I laughed, "You sound thrilled."
"I just want to live my life. I'm really sick of mom continuously telling me what to do."
"I get it but my situation's different. No one does that to me enough. My mom does but she's a single mother who also has to work. I'm always on my own. Or I feel like it."
"I'm jealous. I am never alone! Ever."
"Sorry mate. If it makes you feel better, I don't have to talk tonight."
"No. Please do. I actually kinda like hanging out with you. Sorry I didn't really talk to you before... I thought you were just going to bother me like most people do."
"It's good. What about Jordan and Parker?"
"Jordan's my better friend out of the two."
I nodded and looked at Jordan, he was smiling and laughing; he looked like a good friend.
I looked at Parker, he was staring at me. I looked away and back at Dylan.
"What's your favorite color?" I asked.
"What? Well, I guess it's like a dark blue. What's yours?"
"Emerald Green."
"Why?"
"It's the color that trees look through snowboarding goggles." I shrugged,
"It's your turn to ask a question Dylan.""Fine. What's your favorite.... movie?"
And that's what we did until the waiter came. Jordan and Taylor eventually joined in but they knew all of each other's answers before they said them. It was cute.
Once the waiter came and we received the menus, a new conversation struck up, "Dylan, you're still buying me dinner. No family discount."
"Okay."
"You seem really okay with it."
"I am. Get the most expensive thing on here if you want."
"Wow, you must have good cash."
"You do."
"What?"
"You left your wallet on the counter and I took out a loan."
I gasped, "Dylan!"
He laughed, "I'll pay you back!"
"You'd better."
We laughed again and ordered our meals.

Once we had all payed we stood up and Pushed in our chairs. I hadn't stopped talking to Dylan, he was amazing! If I had known how great of a friend he was I wouldn't have felt like such an outcast at first.
We had begun to walk out when I heard my name mentioned behind me. I turned around to come face to face with Jules and three of her rich girl friends.
"Riley?" She scoffed
"Jules?" I imitated her scoff.
She scowled but regained herself, "I just wanted to say hi and ask you what you were doing here. WE were on a triple date. Do you want to know who my date was?"
"Not really."
"Here he is!"
The next thing I knew, Logan had walked up and was standing in front of me. I burned with anger, he 'didn't like anyone right now', yeah SURE.
"Oh uh, hey Riley."
"Yeah, hi Logan."
Jules butted in, "You were on a date too, weren't you? But no one would ever date you would they?" She made a pouty face and all of her friends laughed. I just started a Logan, I was hurt and mad.
I had nothing to say back so I was about to turn away. I had started to turn when an arm ensnared my waist. I looked up to see Dylan sporting a dashingly well-played rescue.
"I hope you're not talking to my girlfriend like that." When he stood up tall, he was as tall as Logan and all of the other dates.
"D-Dylan, SHE'S your girlfriend?"
"Um, duh." He subtly elbowed me and I jumped in,
"If you don't mind, We'll be leaving now. Ba-bye Jules."
I then grabbed Dylan's hand and smiled lovingly at him. We walked out the door.
The minute we were out I hugged him. "Thank you. I didn't have a comeback."
He chuckled, "I noticed. Now apparently you're my girlfriend but don't let it go to your head, you're not REALLY my type."
"Same with you, I don't do 'family' guys."
He laughed and I decided to fill in a question, "Why were they so eager to listen to you?"
"Guys on the lacrosse team have some serious leverage."
I laughed, "Well, thanks again."
I studied Dylan's kind face and realized something: I had the best brother in the world.
