now that he'd finished going over some class work with his teacher, and had retrieved his lunch from his locker, minho walked into the canteen to head towards the usual table he and his friend group would sit at.

on arrival, he was slightly confused to see everyone there apart from his younger best friend.

"where's-"

"-jisung?" changbin finished for him, a light teasing smile on his lips.

"yes, actually." minho replied, sitting down with jeongin on his right and a gap on his left between him and felix.

"he said he'll be here in a second." hyunjin explained, looking a lot more bubbly than minho had been anticipating.

after noticing hyunjin's frequent glances towards the canteen's entrance, minho lowered his voice as he leant over to jeongin and changbin.

"am i missing something?"

"we have no idea." jeongin shrugged as he finished a mouthful of his sandwich. "but, for some reason, chan, hyunjin, and felix all look very excited for jisung to show up."

changbin held back a teasing remark which minho had noticed as he'd watched the younger wiggle his eyebrows and point at him before shifting his attention to his lunch.

minho rolled his eyes in response though couldn't deny the assumptions.

jisung and minho, best friends for eight years after they'd become neighbours.

the day the two then nine year olds had met, their parents almost had to physically split them up as the pair had instantly clicked and wanted to spend as much time as possible with each other.

for the last eight years, the pair had been inseparable. many people wishing they had a friendship just like jisung and minho.

however, for the past two years, minho had developed feelings for jisung and had decided to keep it a secret for the sake of their friendship.

and anyway, though minho couldn't do everything people in relationships did, with jisung, the pair's dynamic was strong enough that minho never felt threatened about someone getting to actually do those things with jisung.

or at least, that's what it had felt like.

as the sound of footsteps neared the table, minho lifted his head to finally catch sight of his younger best friend.

minho couldn't help but notice that jisung certainly held a wider smile than he would of a usual lunchtime.

"ooo~ someone looks a lil flustered!" chan commented as jisung stepped over the bench to sit down next to felix.

the younger rolled his eyes, clearly trying to make the light pink hue on his cheeks seem like it wasn't a big deal.

"shut up." jisung mumbled as a reply, lifting out the same lunchbox as minho that he carefully set on the table.

hyunjin let out a deflated sigh before shuffling close to felix to be closer to jisung.

"so?!" hyunjin spoke as he grinned at the younger.

"did he pull you aside then!?" felix squealed, leaning back so hyunjin's chin could rest on his shoulder.

the two were near burning holes into jisung's face as they stayed silent in anticipation for the response.

changbin and minho shared another look, jeongin too busy with his sandwich to notice.

changbin watched as the older's eyebrows lightly furrowed in confusion before he turned back to look at jisung.
