mrs han had not been expecting to have guests barely an hour after her and her 7 year old son had moved into a new neighbourhood.
and, as she opened the door, mrs han had certainly not been expecting to see a 9 year old boy on her doorstep with tears rolling down his face as he looked up at her pleadingly.
"h-hello, um, sweetheart," she looked around the road quickly, feeling slightly alarmed that there were no adults in sight. she turned back to the boy and tried to keep her expression from showcasing any sort of panic.
"...are you alright?" mrs han knew it was quite a daft question since the child was crying. still, with how taken back she was at the situation, she wasn't exactly speaking only after a deep pondering of what might be best to say.
"n-no," the boy sobbed as he swiped his fist over his cheek to rid his tears. "h-have you seen my cat?"
"your cat?" mrs han repeated slowly. "i'm sorry sweetheart, but my son and i have only just moved in. i'm unfortunately not familiar with your cat."
noticing the boy's lips began to tremble even more, mrs han gently crouched down and placed a delicate hand on his shoulder.
"could you tell me your name please, sweetheart?" before he could answer she quickly clarified. "just your first name."
"m-minho." the boy hiccuped as he tried to speak clearly.
"right," she nodded with a sweet smile. "now, minho, do you live around here? are your parents close?"
the boy, now known to be minho, nodded as he turned around and pointed to the house directly opposite.
"i live there."
mrs han sighed in relief. she did not know what she would have done if this boy was lost, especially since she'd just moved into this neighbourhood.
"ah okay, i see." she switched to a slightly more stern voice for her next question. "now, minho, do your parents know you've come over here?"
minho nodded. "m-mama says soonie is very adventotoruss, s-so she thinks he might have tried to see what all the fuss was this morning."
mrs han's heart melted at the way he was speaking. it reminded her very much of her own son.
"he's very adventurous?"
"y-yeah," minho mumbled quietly. "t-that."
the woman laughed softly as she patted his cheek. "did you parents tell you to go looking for your soonie?"
"they did." minho politely answered. "i-if soonie not over here, i should go back home and then they'll come look around other houses with me."
"does soonie go out often?"
minho shook his head, now no longer crying as he swiped his sleeves over his face to clean himself up slightly.
"soonie stays inside. s-so when mama saw him go over here she told me to go rescue him..." the boy grew slightly shy as he hiked his shoulders up to his ears. "w-was a bit scared because you're new-"
then, he hesitantly looked up at her. "b-but mama said she saw you have a son like me so she thought it would be good for me to see if i could have a new friend."
mrs han was fighting the urge to pinch this little boy's face with just how cute he currently looked. after all, she never could hold back from pinching her own son's chubby cheeks.
"my son, jisungie, is just in the garden. maybe after you've met jisung, you could ask him to help you look for soonie?"
minho was about to step forward when mrs han gently stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
