“JASEY! Here!” Meg waves her hand up in the air, almost too excitedly. Jasey walks through the drunken crowd and sits next to Meg, huffing a sense of relieve.
“With this kind of crowd I almost thought I’d never find you”
“You would always find me sweetheart” she giggles at her own words.
“So…what’s the occasion? It’s not really that usual for you to take me into this kind of place…” Jasey settles, ordering a light cocktail.
“Why does it always have to have something in something?” she slurred, almost lost focus.
“Meg?”
“People are idiot, Jasey. Especially boys, they are so fucked up” Meg takes another sip from her drink. Jasey figured that it must have something to do with boys, in this case, Matt. That’s why she has never wanted to have anything to do with anyone from work; it would be too awkward if something goes wrong, especially if that someone is your boss.
“What’s wrong with you and Matt?” Jasey asks without trying to get around the problem first. She’s not really that interested in boy’s problem, and to be honest, she thinks that she is not the person to go to if it has something to do with boys.
“It just doesn’t work out. At first it was fun and games, he tried to get over you” Meg eyed Jasey with a dirty look. Jasey shrugs at her, grinning awkwardly.
“And when he eventually does, thanks to me” she adds, bluffing her chest, apparently proud of herself, “we had a pretty good time actually, he was smart and fun and oh so romantic” she sighs dreamingly, “then the honeymoon period was over”
“That fast? It’s only been like 3-4 months!” Jasey exclaims. Meg really needs to try to settle first.
“Well, that’s the period of honeymoon period isn’t it…?” she raises her brow, “Anyway, long story short we are not together anymore”
“I am so sorry…” Jasey sends her a sympathetic look, feeling sad for her friend, she couldn’t think about how she’d feel if she has to ‘break up’ with Alex. Maybe she’ll cope the same way Meg does, she is clearly here just to get drunk and forget all about Matt.
“Alright I am going to tell you what happen!” she adds suddenly.
“Excuse me?”
“I know you want to know the details”
Jasey doesn’t really know what to say. She didn’t say anything, clearly, and she isn’t really a person to come to for some relationship problems, but if telling the story could make her better, then why not? She plays along with Meg half-drunk self, “I am, yes.”
“He is an obnoxious, idiot little rat. I thought he was so innocent and sweet and all those dreamy nonsense, but he’s just a liar bastard” she smacks her lips with her hand, wiping the dripping liquor away.
“He cheated on you?” Jasey is sincerely shocked if he was.
“Nah, he wouldn’t dare. He doesn’t have enough balls to actually cheat” she snorts, “He’s one of those typical, traditional, old thinkers, in which, he thinks that the women must do all the chores and the cooking. He acts all mighty and haughty ordering me around like a little slave”
“Really…?” Jasey’s not sure; Matt doesn’t seem like the kind of people to do that.
“Of course not!” Meg laughs, ordering another drink.
“Meg…” Jasey gives out a long sigh, this could be a very long night; she might as well drink it away.
“I don’t want to admit this…but we are just not a match” she says eventually, her voice tired, “I like him…a lot. I can even say that I was falling for him, but the more we learn about each other, the more we find ourselves fight. Our interests, our liking and dislikes are all clashing, just like water and fire…science and religion…just like all of those craps. We tried to compromise each other, try to live with it, but we grew tired and we just have had enough. We found ourselves more miserable than happy and that’s not what we want out of a relationship. And so…there we were…breaking things up…” her back slumps. Jasey wraps her arms around Meg; it must be tough for them to admit that they can’t be together.
“I am so sorry, Meg…” is all she manages to say.
Jasey hadn’t really experience all of those things. She had only one boyfriend before she made the friends with benefits agreement with Alex; she broke up with him because he was cheating, typical. She wasn’t really heartbroken though, her mum had already told her not to trust and that was what she did, so she was fine. She has been close with Alex for years now and they just find more and more things that they have similarities in. Sure, there are these differences, but those differences only make things more interesting.
“It doesn’t matter, I am a young, beautiful, healthy woman in this beautiful city. I’d find someone else. Let’s just drink it off tonight,” she orders shots for Jasey and herself, grinning from ear to ear.
“Just for you, Meg” Jasey reluctantly grabs one of the shot glass and swallows the liquor quickly, leaving a burning feeling in her throat.
“What about you?” Meg asks suddenly as Jasey felt more and more dizzy.
“Huh?” Jasey mumbles
“Alex?”
“Ah we’re fine. Cheers” they clinked their glass together before swallowing another shot of liquor.
“You look really happy with him”
Jasey felt more dizzy, “Ah yeah…he’s not my boyfriend”
“What?”
Ah screw it she might as well know, Jasey thinks, “I asked him to be my fake date just so Matt wouldn’t think he had a chance with me, and so he can go on a date with you. He’s not my boyfriend, he’s my really good friend”
Meg stares at her, her brow arched, “You two really look good together though. From all I could see, it looked like you have a really good connection with him, a special one, a beautiful, sweet, couple-like connection” she drifts away, smiling her dreamy smile again. Jasey could only snorts in reply.
