“Oh, Zack…”
Zack giggles involuntarily.
“Ewwwww” Alex turns his head to Jasey, sticking his tongue out, disgusted.
“Can you not do that in public?” Jasey sighs, resting her head on Alex’s shoulder, holding back her giggles.
“But we are just doing what you guys are doing”
“But…” Rian starts, his eyes wander around the café, looking at Cass for backup. Cass clasps her fingers with Rian, “come on” she chirps in.
“Homophobes” Jack mutters under his breath, releasing his cuddles to Zack, backing away from Zack’s faces, “we are the only two lonely people, the least we can do is taking comfort from each other”
“Does Zack want that from you, though?” Alex shakes his head slowly
“Aww, are you jealous?” Jack flirts; sending air kisses for him before Alex sticks his tongue out childishly to Jack again.
Zack looks around at his dysfunctional friends. It had been several weeks since Jasey’s mother was released from the hospital. Alex was always there whenever Jasey goes to check on her mom, and he can see their obvious attraction to each other. Better still, they aren’t trying to hide their feelings from each other anymore. Jasey and Alex are closer than they’ve ever been. Zack smiles discreetly, he doesn’t know why he feels kind of proud of his friends, the future is still unknown – true – but at least they’ve had everything handled for now. Yes, he and Jack hasn’t had their partners just yet and the search is going to be long and hard, but he is genuinely happy for his band mates he has known for almost half of his life. They have found their happiness and they are not trying to avoid it anymore.
“WHAT?” Jasey’s half-muffled scream snaps Zack away from his train of thoughts. Alex has all of his attention on her; Jack has had his hands on Zack’s arms, shocked at Jasey’s sudden outburst. Jasey smiles apologetically, mouthing her sorry for Jack before getting up and left the group.
“Are you serious?” Jasey’s voice is still high enough to be considered a scream. She clutches her phone tightly while walking out of the café, not wanting to bother the guests…or embarrass herself.
“Yes, honey” her mom laughs heartily, amused by her surprise, “his name is Turk. I met him after I got released from the hospital, at the park. He was a creeper at first” she giggles like a love-struck teenager, “I was just joking” she adds, her voice away from the phone. Jasey could almost hear a man’s voice next to her mom.
“Anyway, there it is. He is a really nice man, Jasey, you have to meet him as soon as possible”
“Is it going to be like meeting my girlfriend’s parents? I thought at this age I don’t have to go through that horror anymore” a distant voice adds to the conversation, his voice is filled with delight, like Santa Clause’s voice in the mall Jasey visited when she was a little girl. She liked that voice and she can imagine him being a funny guy. She smiles, her mom needs a man like that. Good for her.
“Jasey, honey. I like that friend of yours, the one that always visit me with you. Alex, isn’t he?”
“Yes mom, he is Alex”
“He is a really nice guy, Jasey. He is a keeper”
A wide smile occupy Jasey’s lips, her cheeks blush ever so slightly. I know he is a keeper, she thought to herself.
