“I hate my life…” Jasey mutters as she gargle a mouthful of mouthwash to get rid of the disgusting taste in her mouth after she throws everything inside her up. She stalked her way back to her room, tracing her hand along the walls to support herself. She starts to wish she had stayed with her mother in times like these. After all, every sick person must want to be treated with the warmness of home. Well, at least that’s what Jasey thinks.

            “JASEY”

Just after she collapses onto the bed, Jack’s voice rings through the corridor, from her apartment’s front door. She could hear 5 people’s footsteps as they are going closer and closer to her room.

“Aww you poor sweet baby, do you want uncle Jack to nurse you back to health?” Jack pops up from her bedroom’s door, showing a big grin before sitting next to Jasey and cradles her.

“We brought you hot soup and bread, some medicine, and…ice cream” Cassadee throws Jack a dirty look, which he shrugs off immediately.

“Thank you guys” Jasey smiles meekly.

“You look green” Alex pulls Jasey from Jack and puts her head gently on his arms.

“Ah gee thanks Alex, I didn’t notice that” Jasey rolls her eyes, making herself more comfortable inside his cuddle.

Jasey doesn’t know how she gets to be this lucky. She has these 5 amazing people surrounding her. They are like her second family and they are always there for each other. Jasey smiles pleasantly, taking the good from the bad.

“Aren’t you guys busy?” Jasey yawns, looking at them one by one, of all of the people in that room, Jasey got the most boring job ever. Cass is recording her new album, and the boys, well; they’re supposed to prepare for their next tour. Matt isn’t going to be happy if they are not practicing. Just to be clear, Matt as in Flyzik, not Matt as in Jasey’s ridiculous boss.

“We have time to spare” Jack chipped in, flopping lazily on Jasey’s bed, making it as crowded as ever.

“You’re just lazy, you fat ass” Zack glares at him, “but yeah, we have time to spare,” he adds, looking ever-so-sweetly to Jasey.

“Recording’s not until half four. Rian’s going with me, so we’re practically free” Cass sits on the chair Rian drags for her.

“And you will not get rid of me anytime soon” Alex strokes her hair, sending the feeling of warmness, and he is so cozy.

They end up spending the time chatting and joking; making plans about their future trip together. Jack excitedly talks about the guitar he is going to use at the upcoming tour, making Rian and Cassadee look at each other with melancholy, talking about the time they have to spend apart again. From time to time Jasey has to jump out of the bed and run like crazy towards the bathroom and Alex will always shadows her, rubbing her back and holding her hair. Jasey feels her eyelids drop and it gets heavier and heavier over time.

“Alright, guys, you can go now!” Alex announces after looking at Jasey drowsily trying to keep her eyes open.

“Aww, Alex, don’t be such a buzz-killer” Jack whines

“Come on, Jacko. She needs her sleep” Zack pulls him towards the door, looking at Rian and Cass, “and you two needs to go to the studio now, heard the traffic is pretty jammed”

Alex and Jasey throw Zack a smile of gratitude while he has to practically carry Jack away. Rian and Cass say their goodbyes more discreetly before slamming the door close.

“And now” Alex props Jasey so that she can sit comfortably, “you have to drink your medicine”

“Aww, mom” Jasey whines, “can I just rest this up without the medicine?”

“Young lady, listen to me, you have to take this or I’ll force it into you” his high-pitched voice makes Jasey laughs involuntarily.

“Alex…” she starts, her voice flickers as her eyelids drops even further.

            “Mmhm?”

“Have I ever told you anything about my parents?” she sighs, her voice soft

“You’re never comfortable with that topic…” he replies just as softly, pulling Jasey inside his arms.

“I can tell you now” she says half-unconsciously, “they had a rough divorce. They started to fight when I was eight. At first they talk stone-coldly to each other, which was fine to me, I thought it was just another little fights and they would be better soon. But then it got worse, they started to stop talking to each other, then they started to ignore each other’s existence, giving me a fake, too-happy attitude as if wanting to show each other that they’re happier than the other. And then when I was ten, Dad stopped talking to me altogether and I don’t know what I had done wrong. Mom said it doesn’t matter, he just needed time but it wasn’t that.” She slurred, Alex gently caresses her face, “shh you need to sleep” he whispers but Jasey ignores him.

“I was at the mall that day when I saw Dad with another woman. He had his arms around her and she was too close…just too close. I came out to Dad to ask what the hell was he doing with that woman. He looked at me like he didn’t recognize me, saying that I am a nosy little kid. He said that I looked too much like my mother and he doesn’t like that. After that, things turned to the worst part, mom and dad started to yell at each other. I had to boom my music out loud to mute them out. When I was nearly eleven, I saw my Dad slapped my Mom hard on the face and Mom collapsed on the sofa, crying until she shook. Dad just stood there, looking away, not a single trace of regret was there. So I stood up and told him that he can leave, we don’t need him. So he left that night” Jasey’s eyes are almost closed, Alex hugs her even tighter, feeling her pain shot through her eyes.

“Mom told me the day after that Dad and her have lost their feelings long ago and they are trying just for me. She said that love has always been out of the question for so long. She told me never to trust anything; especially a biased feeling such as love and it is a nonexistent thing. She said to me that every time someone said the world love, it is just a bullshit” she sighs, before falling asleep in Alex’s arm instantly, snoring lightly.

Alex holds her tight and mumbles a little lullaby for her. At that point, he began to understand a little bit more about her. He now understands about why Jasey was so sure about this ‘friends with benefits’ agreement. He understands why Jasey told him easily that ‘boyfriend’ is out of question.
