LOVE CUBE

Hyun's POV

I picked up my phone from the bedside table to answer the call. My eyes squinted, looking at the screen to see the caller ID. I pressed the green button to respond to his call.

"Hello," I greeted. "What's up that you called me this late, Ni-ki?" I chuckled.

I heard him chuckle before clearing his throat to reply. "Can I go study with you this weekend?"

I went sitting straight as I heard his question. "You could ask me that later at school, right?"

"Uh, yeah. But, I won't be able to sleep if I waited longer. Sorry for disturbing you." he shyly answered.

I took a deep breath, slowly laying back down. I stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before replying to his question. "Do whatever you want. I don't really care if anyone wants to join me or not. Just do whatever you want to do, I won't stop you anyway."

I heard him shouting 'yay!' and found myself smiling widely. I slapped my cheek and left him hanging. I tried going back to sleep, snuggling my head onto my pillow.

"Here," I spoke, offering him a bottle of cold water. He smiled at me and took the bottle from my hands. "Sorry for what he did to you, Ni-ki." I apologized as the nurse continued tapping the cotton ball gently at Ni-ki's wounded cheek.

Earlier, Jay threw three punches at Ni-ki's face that had gave him bruises. If Sunghoon hadn't stopped and weaned Jay off, Ni-ki would have received bruises all over his face. Students were alarmed by the scene that created a chaos inside the cafeteria. They all went crazy taking pictures and videos, enjoying the fight. Jay was brought to the guidance office by Jake, and I volunteered to assist Ni-ki to the infirmary.

"Aren't you gonna scold me? Or yell at me? It's clearly my fault that he went mad." he asked.

"I'll do that once you got out of here. But, the least I could do to apologize for what he did to your face is.. this," I pointed at chair I'm sitting on. "To stay here and see if you're okay."

He nodded while pouting. The nurse stood up and left after bowing at us. Now that we are alone in the infirmary, the awkwardness filled in the room. The silence was so loud that  I could shatter my ears to pieces. Later then, he faked a cough. I sat straight as I stared at the floor.

"Hyun," I shifted my gaze to him as he called me. He looked so serious that I felt nervous. "I've been meaning to tell you about.." he paused. "..my feelings."

I gulped as I processed his words. My eyes blinked many times as I began to think. The conversation I heard from Jake and Jay mentioning that he likes me crossed my mind. I tucked my lips shakily as I watched him fiddling with his fingers. His ears are flushing red.
