Your eyes rounded in horrific realization at the sound of his voice as you tensed up.
Sebek laughed spitefully at your reaction as he flipped the light on, revealing the room you were in to be the bathroom.
"This is the one chosen to marry our Lord and King?"
He sneered as he moved closer toward you.
Out of reflex, you pushed your body against the wall of the tub, holding onto the edges as if you'd fly right out of the room if you didn't.
"An imprudent, magicless, dull human like you?" he frowned as he said it. "The very thought would be laughable if not for it being so loathsome."
You dared to look at him and stare into those glowering hazel eyes, which quickly turned into an evil shade of red.
His words were all too familiar to you.
They were told to you countless times back at the academy, though with far less refinement.
"Weakling!"
"Moocher!"
"Useless!"
All that and other, more vulgar insults were thrown at you, especially since the first few days you attended.
Though, the petty, smug jeers of classmates were nothing compared to Sebek's utter disdain for you.
You've never seen someone look at you with so much hatred—as if the mere thought of you being born was disgusting.
Once he was over you he grabbed you by the throat and pulled you close enough to his face, his fangs peeking from his grimace.
His hold on your neck was so strong you were worried he was going to kill you.
What he did next was simply force you to turn your head and pull away your collar to expose your neck.
No...
You tried to fight him off but the moment you tried any resistance a jolt of electricity surged through your body, forcing your limbs to go.
All you could do was cry as you felt his breath on your exposed neck, ready to bite–
"There you are!" Lilia's voice carried from the hallway, which startled both you and him.
He relented and let you fall to the floor, sheepishly trying to think of a way to explain this.
You coughed violently and put your hand to your neck, feeling the handmark he made there while he blathered, still trying to process what just happened.
"Enough," Lilia interrupted him curtly.
"You know we have been ordered not to inflict harm on this human. They are our honored guests!"
You couldn't believe your ears. Was he defending you?
"But Master Lilia, I wasn't going to hurt them, per se!" Sebek lay his arms in a pleading position. "I was just getting a little taste–"
"How dare you," Lilia rumbled, his red eyes glowing as he scowled at Sebek.
Your eyes widened at Lilia's anger and you were glad you were turned away from them, as you didn't want him to see your shocked expression.
You didn't want to believe this was real. You couldn't.
Part of you knew better, the part that told you he was merely doing this to gain favor from his master.
But the other part wanted to feel grateful for his action, however selfish the reason behind it may be.
Maybe, just maybe you could put your trust in him–not all of it, but enough.
You slowly turned around to see the two and saw it was Lilia who was standing over you now, with Sebek looking with astonishment.
He stared at you with low lids, his pupils thin as a snake's and a grin slimy enough to make you sick.
"How dare you have a taste test without telling me, Sebek." He finished without looking away from you.
Your blood ran cold.
The panic that was slowly dying down quickly wormed itself into your stomach and tightened its grip like a constrictor.
You cursed yourself for even wanting to trust him.
How could you have been so naive, so stupid?
It didn't take very long for his bats–those damned bats–to hoist you off the bathroom floor.
Lilia clapped his hands in excitement.
"I've always wanted to share with you and your brothers the taste of a Child of Eden!" He spoke giddily as he turned your head away to expose your neck.
You felt yourself grow lightheaded as he and Sebek's hands were on you, their bodies casting large shadows over you.
"Listen, Sebek, the first thing you need to do is..."
You blacked out before you could hear the rest of what he was saying.
******
When you woke up, Lilia and Sebek were thankfully gone, but your clothes were a huge mess.
Your shirt was in tatters, your pants the same, and you ached everywhere.
It hurt just to think of moving.
Still, you couldn't just lay here, as they could return for seconds if you didn't hurry.
You used the edge of the tub to steady yourself when a part of your sleeve fell to reveal bite marks all across your arms.
Mortified, you leaned your way into the sink to look into the bathroom mirror and wished you'd go back into unconsciousness.
Bites all around your jaw, your neck, as well as big welts.
Except for your face, you looked like you got attacked by a swarm of bees and bed bugs.
So much for being the honored guest.
If you weren't already, you were definitely over this now.
You couldn't take it anymore.
You needed to get away from this place, away from vampires, and away from this arranged marriage.
You ran as fast as your wobbly legs could carry you out of the bathroom into the hallway.
