Night Raven Academy finally awarded you a diploma.
You had just left the graduation celebration with your friends and were coming down from your alcoholic high.
Ace Trappola helped you to your feet and exclaimed, "Jeez, Y/n."
"You can certainly keep a drink down!"
As your pals walked to their cars, you grinned as you leaned against him for support.
"I suppose so. Even if you aren't much better, Ace!"
He laughed, the smell of booze trailing from his mouth.
His friend, Deuce, grimaced at the smell and waved near his nostrils.
"You better be lucky I'm the one taking you home, Ace. You're just about to collapse from all the drinking you've done! You should see how shitfaced you are."
"Aye, c'mon Loosey-Deucy! You're ruining my high!"
Deuce sighed.
"Y/n, lemme take him. You go ahead and look for Grim."
That's right, you remembered. Grim was supposed to come with us.
As you made your way through the crowd of graduates to head back to school you could spot various people in your homeroom conversing with the teachers and other staff.
Epel Felmier was talking with the Savanaclaw grads, though you were too far away to hear what they were saying.
They seemed to be joking about muscles.
Across from the other side was Riddle Rosehearts getting a visit from the graduates of the past generation, Trey Clover and Carter Diamond, along with his other friend Chenya.
They seemed to be making fun of him.
As you finally made your way into the academy, you came across a large white-haired man with wolf ears holding a book in his hands.
Upon noticing you, he waved. "Oh, it's you."
You smiled. "Hey, Jack. Seen Grim anywhere?"
He thought for a moment, his thick fingers gently rubbing the peach fuzz on his chin.
"Think I saw 'im lyin' on the balcony near the library?"
"Thank you."
You head there but before you do, you feel a hand on your shoulder- Jack's hand.
"Say, uh, what's yer means of goin' home?"
"Oh, I take the bus. Or I ride with Deuce and them. Why do you ask?"
"Have ya heard about the recent disappearances lately? People who've been goin' home by themselves turn up missin' the next day. Be careful."
He immediately walked away.
With Jack's warning in mind, you head to the library's entrance to see a big-bellied Grim sleeping soundly between a few books.
"Mmm...that's right! Bow before me! Myhahaha!"
He was too deep in dreamland to respond to anything.
You picked him up and held him in your arms; he wasn't exactly light but it didn't bother you too much as you walked out of the college to find that your friends were gone.
Bewildered, you take out your phone only to see there wasn't a signal.
Weird, you thought to yourself, it was working just a moment ago.
You decided to head to the bus stop, which already had one other person in its terminal.
The woman had long black hair and wore a short-sleeved floral dress, not very suitable for the bipolar weather change.
She rubbed her arms attempting to generate some heat, and as you sat Grim on the bench, you took off your blazer.
"You can wear this if you'd like," you offered.
She shook her head. "Oh, but I couldn't. Wouldn't you be cold as well?"
"I'm tougher than I look," you insisted. "I'm an athlete, so my body doesn't get as cold as the average person's."
She finally gives in and takes the coat.
"Say," she begins, " you wouldn't be a student from Night Raven Academy would you?"
You nodded.
"I just graduated, actually. "
You showed her your graduation hat.
She beamed.
"Look at you! All grown up and ready for the world!"
She looked out in the direction of the school.
"I happen to have a cousin that attends that college. His name is Preston. Did you two ever meet?"
"I don't think we have. What dorm is he from?"
"I think he told me Heartslabyul?"
"Oh. Sorry, still doesn't ring any bells."
Her face fell.
"A shame. I thought I would have lucked out on meeting one of Preston's new friends."
She looked nervously at the thickening fog rolling in, tightening the blazer around her.
"Any idea why the weather decided to act chaotic today? It's in the middle of June yet it feels like it's just turned October."
You shrugged as you looked for the bus, though it was almost impossible to make out anything outside a few outlines of trees due to the thickening fog.
"Myah?!" a light squeak came from behind you.
You and the woman turned to see Grim sitting up from the bench in bewilderment.
"Oi, Y/n, where are we? What's with all this spooky fog?"
"I've lost track of the others so I took the bus. The weather's gotten pretty strange all of a sudden so stay close to me, Grim."
"Oh, is that the name of your cute little kitty friend?"
"Oi! I ain't no kitty, lady! I'm Grim the Great and don't you forget it!"
"C'mon, Grim," you lightly tap him but the woman simply smiles.
"Aw, it's okay. I understand his reaction. After all, I have yet to introduce myself! I'm Gwendolyn. Nice to meet you!"
"I'm y/n, and, well, you've met Grim."
Grim puffed up his chest at the mention of his name.
She giggled.
"Well met. Oh!"
You and Grim turn to where she was looking and saw an ominous yellow glow getting closer and closer towards you.
