"I disagree,", you chimed in, "you were picked up by a royal family and treated like you had been with them since the beginning- to top it off, you've got a cozy spot in the vampiric military as a personal guard. That's hardly uninteresting."

He stared off beyond you, as if searching for something in the window behind you.

"I suppose so, but thanks to Father and Lord Malleus, I never received anything more than disparaging looks from the High Lords of other clans. Nobody would dare to lay a hand on me, before or after I became a soldier."

You nodded; just as you suspected, he had a cozy upbringing.

As cozy as a half-vampire could have.

Still, it made you smile to hear that from what little Silver showed, the tales Malleus told you weren't fake at all; he and Silver may have had a real relationship.

"So, what was a normal day for you and the Lord?"

He snapped out of his gaze as he processed the question.

"Well, one day when I was little, I remember we were living along the cozier parts of the Underworld in a nice little hut and I wanted to play with him. I woke him up as soon as the sun was up, though Malleus cherished his sleep, so it took a while.

When I finally woke him up I wanted to show him a move I learned while flying with Father."

His body relaxed as he recalled the memory.

"It was warm, and the sun wasn't harsh on us; though the 'sun' here rarely ever is, and flowers bloomed everywhere. I did a loop-de-loop and almost fell into a tree. Malleus helped me straighten myself, all while laughing of course. After picking the leaves out of my hair he showed me how to do it properly."

He whistled.

"He was so graceful in the sky...it was like watching a swan dance in the river."

You sat intently as he spoke of the various picnics and games he and Malleus would enjoy as Lilia would carefully watch after him (though hearing how "dotting" and "protective" he was with Silver sent you whiplash).

Grim got bored and fell asleep, and you rubbed his belly while you hung to every tale of hide-and-seek, every prank that was pulled when they went back to the manor.

Even Lilia wasn't spared from the boy's antics.

"One day we were discussing how we never saw Father show fear. Malleus wondered if there was a way to spook him, which gave me an idea."

Another smile crept upon his lips, but this time, his eyes held a mischievous twinkle.

"Malleus and I would have our planned hiding spots, see? I would hide in the kitchen, and he would hide in the cellar- places Father liked to frequent- and wait for him to show up."

"Why different hiding spots?"

"To see who could scare him first!" He said without losing his smile.

"Despite being a half-blood, my hearing is really good, so I'd be able to hear if Malleus got to him first."

He went deep into thought before continuing, the sunlight flickering in his aurora colored eyes.

"Strangely enough, I could only hear one pair of footsteps, even though Father usually walks upstairs for his studies. Malleus came back down and told me how he didn't find Father anywhere, and after a while of searching the entire house, he was nowhere to be found.

"When morning came, we got worried. Father's never been gone that long without telling us first. After we looked outside for the last time, Malleus and I sat on the tree swing to think of a way we could reach the High Lords back at the mansion.

"As soon as we sat down-"

He raised his arms and yelled so loudly it startled you so badly you almost fell out of your bed and caused the basket to follow you; Grim was woken up from his slumber and his fur bristled from the sudden noise.

"Father appeared out of nowhere and scared us!"

He then proceeded to laugh, the joy in his voice so overwhelming he had to lay back as he held his stomach.

You put a hand to your chest and gawked at him.

"Mya?! W-what happened?" Grim said as he sat up.

"So this is the real you?" You said once your heartbeat calmed.

Once he calmed down he sat up and tilted his head as he kept his smile.

"What do you mean? I've always been me, haven't I?"

"They mean yer bein' way too loud all of a sudden!" Grim explained as he crossed his arms.

"Yeah!" They said
