POV: Loki
I was not expecting Peter or Tony to take my criticism. In fact, I was really doing it just so I could have a reason to be in the room. I didn't care how noticeable the young Spiderling's suit was.
Of course, I was not expecting Tony to be done with the spider suit so suddenly and suggest that they should go fight muggers.
Tony, of course, doesn't care much when I'm bitter about not being invited. They probably don't trust me not to mug someone myself. Please. What do these Midgardians have to offer?
"Sir?" Jarvis said. I remembered what I'd done on Tony's phone and try not to smile too obviously. "Ms. Romanoff, Vision, Pietro, and Wanda are here."
No one says anything. Tony looks shocked.
"What?" he said.
"They're here," Jarvis answered calmly.
Tony finally turned to stare at me and not the ceiling.
"Did you tell them to come?"
"Now, why would I do that?" I said smoothly. Tony facepalmed. Peter looked back between us.
"Wait, who are they? Mr. Stark?" He finally asked.
"You'll meet them in a moment. Come on," he answered, gesturing for me to leave. I sighed and followed them up the stairs, leaving a machine whirring in his lab making Peter's spidersuit. We walked into the living room, and I noted Natasha looking around, Vision floating to read the book titles, Wanda messing with red magic around her wrists. A blue blur dashes right up to Peter and when he stops I can see Pietro, looking mildly amused at Peter's look of astonishment.
"Who are you? I don't remember any new Avengers since us," he said, his voice infused with a thick Sokovian accent.
"I'm Peter Parker. Mr. Stark's intern," he introduced himself. Pietro glanced at Tony with a mixture of annoyance and indifference at his existence.
"I'm Pietro. This is my twin sister, Wanda," he said, gesturing at her walking up to them. They both shook hands with Peter while Tony nodded nervously in the corner.
"Loki," I introduced myself, and after an awkward moment I shook hands with them too. I allowed myself to smile at Tony's nervousness, although I will admit I didn't particularly enjoy having to make a good first impression without a weapon in hand.
"So. Do you have rooms for them?" Natasha asked him, surveying the twins introducing Vision.
"I mean, I think we have a few more upstairs. We're running out honestly, with Loki, Peter, and now Bucky-"
"Bucky?" she interrupted, to my surprise. "Bucky Barnes?"
"Yeah," Tony said. "Why? You're not also from 1945, are you?"
"Oh, no, I just helped Steve dig through censuses for a while. And there was that whole SHIELD-HYDRA nonsense and whatnot, so I know he's Steve's bestie from WWII," she explained.
"Oh. Okay," Tony said slowly. "I'll-"
Pietro had started running around again, just in a circle around the room so everything was lined with a blue blur. Peter watched in amazement. Wanda, watching them annoyedly, moved the rug with her magic to trip Pietro. Of course, he just jumps over it and stops next to her, fake annoyance on his face.
"Don't trip me, I might break something. I'm sure Stark would hate me ruining his things," he said sarcastically.
Tony ignored the statement and told Natasha to give them the rooms upstairs, those empty ones that I'd made look like they were on fire that one time. I smiled at the memory, it had been entertaining to watch them all freak out.
Pietro ran up and put their suitcases in the rooms in about four seconds, and again Tony was in the same room as both of the twins and it was obvious he was nervous about it.
"So, you know Bucky?" he finally said to Natasha, who could read the room and was trying to figure out why he was so nervous.
"Yeah. Is he with Cap? I haven't seen them in a while," she said.
"They're upstairs," he replied, defeated. Natasha smiled, thanked him, and left.
"So. you work for Tony Stark, huh?" Wanda asked Peter, less hostile than Pietro had been.
"Yup," he answered, not reading the room. Tony looked around, pointedly ignoring the twins now and looking at the book titles like he hadn't read and annotated every one of them.
"Hello," Vision said to me, making me realize he was there. I glanced sideways at him, and he was watching Tony with a serene look of interest.
"You're Vision," I said plainly. He nodded.
"I assume you are Loki?" he asked.
"You assume correctly," I replied. We watch Tony nervously flip through a book while Peter, Wanda and Pietro talk about something completely unrelated.
Eventually Peter comes to some sort of conclusion on whatever they were talking about and taps Tony on the shoulder. I hold back my smile. This was getting more entertaining than I thought it would.
"Mr. Stark, do you think Wanda and Pietro could come too? To beat up muggers with us?" he asked hopefully. Tony looked at them, who were looking at him interestedly. He makes a face like he was asked to walk across a minefield.
"Yeah, that could happen. If they want to, of course," he replied carefully, glancing back and forth between all of them.
Vision and I exchange a look. I guess we aren't invited.
"Of course we can come," Wanda purred. "Why would we not? We have nothing better to do."
"I'm sure Mrs. Romanoff could put us to work," Pietro muttered, earning himself a small jab in the ribs.
"Am I coming too?" Vision finally asked. I didn't say anything. If they all wanted to beat up muggers I suppose I'll just read in my room.
"You know what I think we need a mission," Tony said. I was not expecting that. Neither, apparently, was Peter.
"A mission? Really?" he asked, shocked. Tony adjusted his orange-tinted sunglasses.
"Maybe, kid. I'm working now," he said, leaving. Took him long enough.
"I told you that would work," Wanda said, grinning. Peter nodded.
"Yeah. Thanks."
I can't help but smile at the Spiderling's manipulativeness. I could tell Tony would've brought him on a mission anyways, but that did speed up the process.
I catch his eye and hold up one finger, ten fingers, then two. He smiles and turns back to the twins, still beaming. How strange that I actually enjoy this mortal's company.
