January 2003 - Age 14

My first day at Dulaney came faster than I'd expected it to. Zack was a tad upset because he wasn't gonna see me every day, mostly because he couldn't keep an eye on me. He'd managed to break into my locker at school and get everything out of it before they found it and got rid of it all. Mum and dad hugged me tightly as I left, obviously worried about my first day. Zack eventually managed to tear me away from them, and walked me out to the bus stop. He gave me all kinds of tips to survive my first day alone successfully, and I felt him slip something into the pocket of my jeans as he let me out of a hug,

"Zack what wa-"

"Just get on the bus and go." he interrupted, shoving me on the bus.

I smiled nervously at him, then found myself being stared at by around fifty new faces. I spotted a seat right at the back, and pretty much ran to it so I could avoid stares. As a 'good luck at school and try not to get murdered' gift, my parents had bought me an iPod; my first iPod! All my favourites were on there: Blink, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, Yellowcard...to name a few. As soon as my butt hit the seat, I shoved my earphones into my ears and tapped along to Fall Out Boy. After a few minutes, a boy with what could best be described as an overgrown bowl cut came towards me. He sent a smile my way, showing his slightly crooked but bright white teeth.

"Hey." I muttered, pulling out an earphone so I didn't seem rude.

"Hey, I'm Rian." he grinned, holding out his hand.

"Lily." I replied, shaking his hand. "Sorry did I take your seat?"

"It's fine. I usually sit alone so it's nice to have company." he shrugged. "Nice shirt." he added.

I looked down; my Face To Face shirt was proudly blaring across my torso. I smiled at him, and we began gushing about music. We shared a love for a lot of the same bands (including a major thing for Blink-182). I also learnt that Rian was a drummer; I almost collapsed in my seat.

"What's wrong?" he chuckled.

"I play too." I gasped.

"Seriously? Fuck...I've never met a girl who plays drums AND shares my music taste." he confessed.

I bit my lip as Rian continued talking, telling me about his friends and general life at Dulaney High. I just sat there and listened to him, taking in every aspect of his physical appearance. He was kinda cute, even with the dodgy haircut.

"So where did you used to go?"

I blushed bright red. My face felt as if it was about to totally melt any second, and I barely made a sound as I told him.

"Ooh, rival..." he hissed, winking at me. "You'll be fine, honestly. You're a girl."

I stuck by Rian's side as we got off the bus, and he flipped off a group of guys who started wolf whistling at us. He led me over to the main office, and I was shaking like a leaf. Meeting new people and going to new places absolutely terrified me - even though I'm and arrogant little bitch sometimes - but I kind of knew it wouldn't be so bad. I mean, I'd easily struck up conversation with Rian.

"Yes, dear?" an old woman behind a desk smiled.

"Um, I'm new. Lily Merrick." I told her.

She slowly flicked through a pile of papers, and eventually found my timetable and various other useless papers that I'd "need". I thanked her and quickly followed Rian. He snatched my timetable from me before I even had the chance to read it, and was busy rallying off all my subjects and also insulting most of my teachers. As Rian rallied off my timetable, he told me which classes I had with him or his friends, who he'd told me I'd love.
