There were no words spoken in the whole time Lisa's dad was hugging me. His clothes were probably soaked thanks to me but he didn't seem to care. I felt him loosen his grip on me slightly. He turned back a little so he was facing in the direction of the living room.
"Honey," he said urgently. "Call Alex, get him to bring Lisa home."
"Sweetie? What's-"
"Just do it." he said urgently, still hugging me. "C'mon, let's get you inside." he murmured down my ear.
I nodded slowly as he let go of me, violently shivering as I followed him into the living room. I could hear Cindy in the kitchen, no doubt on the phone to Alex who obviously didn't want Lisa to leave him. Eventually she came back into the living room. She did a double take when she walked in, gasping when she saw the state of me.
"Oh sweetheart." she gasped, gently taking my hands in hers and sitting me on the couch. "What happened? Is it Zack again?"
"No." I murmured, shaking my head. "I just...I can't be with the Merricks anymore."
"Oh...they told you then?" she mumbled.
My head shot up. So everyone knew did they? Everyone else knew, but me and Zack? I began to shake again, but this time it was pure rage. I glared up at her, nostrils flared in rage.
"What do you mean they told me?" I snarled. "You fucking KNEW?!" I screamed, squaring up to her.
"Lily, sit down, please." he sighed. "Look, we knew the Merricks adopted you. They told us when the boys started their little band and we were all at one of the shows. We felt terrible just seeing them stood all alone like lemons while the rest of us were all getting along, so we spoke to them, and they told us. Believe me, kiddo, they wanted to tell you a long time ago."
"So why didn't they huh?!" I shouted. "Why the fuck didn't they?"
"Sweetie, you were sick." sighed Cindy, making me round on her again. "They thought it would make you worse, but I agree with you. They should have told you long before now."
I was about to rip into her for saying I was 'sick' - like I always did when people said that - but the fact she agreed stopped me. It felt good that at least one other person saw my viewpoint in all of this. My head was still spinning, totally freaked out by the news. I slumped down on the couch again, Lisa's parents taking the seats either side of me, feeling totally drained. I wanted nothing more than to just fall asleep, but I was interrupted by Lisa coming through the front door.
"Mom wha-" she started to say.
The second Lisa walked into the living room and saw me, she froze. My hair was still dripping wet, my clothes were stuck to me and my make up had run that much it stained my previously white tank top. Her jaw dropped in shock, much like her mother's had done, and she knelt down in front of me. The warmth of her hands against mine made me want to smile, but I physically couldn't.
"C'mon you." she said quietly. "You need Lisa time."
I allowed myself to be dragged upstairs by Lisa, not much caring about anything anymore. Once we got into her room she sat me in the middle of the floor on a towel while she flung pyjamas, a hoodie and several pair of socks at me. I looked up at her.
"You need to get warm, or you'll get sick." she told me.
'But she's already sick.' a voice in my head sniggered. 'Sick in the head.'
I shrugged and peeled off my soaking clothes. I'd had them on that long they'd actually began to dry out a little, but they still clung to my skin. Although taking them off made me feel twice as cold as I was before. I didn't have the energy to do anything, yet I managed to somehow quickly pull Lisa's dry, warm clothes on. Even though Lisa herself was tiny, her clothes still drowned me, showing just how skinny I actually was. Knowing I was skinnier than her made me burst into tears.
"Sweetie what is it?!' Lisa gasped, running over to me from her closet.
"I'm sick." I sobbed. "I'm sick, I'm too thin and I need help."
"Oh baby..." she soothed, pulling me into a hug. "You're finally admitting it. You're getting better."
I pulled away from Lisa slowly, so weak that I could barely hold myself up without slumping over, with eyes narrowed as I stared at her.
"Well Kara's sorta into her psychology these days and she got me into it too..." she trailed off.
"Speaking of Kara," I sniffled. "I need time with my girl."
"She'll be here tomorrow." she smiled. "Now get some sleep."
I climbed into Lisa's bed and snuggled under the covers; her bed was so comfortable. Neither of us found it weird when she climbed in next to me because we always did this at sleepovers. I suddenly felt Lisa's arm rest across my stomach and it wasn't long before she was lightly snoring right next to me. I wish I could do that; fall into a nightmare-less sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
