Lily
I woke quite late the next morning, so much so that I managed to catch Joyce just as she came back upstairs. She didn't see me; she almost had a heart attack when I'd stopped in front of her.
"Lily!" Joyce gasped. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."
"Don't worry about it." I said quickly."Listen, I wanted to apologise. There was no need for me to act the way I did yesterday. I just wanted to apologise for upsetting you."
Joyce sighed. "I accept your apology, sweetheart. Just don't do it again, okay? I worry about you so much and I can't bear to see you in such a mess."
I nodded, and we shared a hug. I loved Joyce, and I couldn't bear to see her upset over anything. The fact I'd finally apologised to her boosted my mood as I went downstairs to Jack. He was helping me, Lisa and Kara begin to move our things into the apartment. Oh yeah, after a few negotiations we eventually got the apartment we wanted. The college kids who viewed it before us conveniently decided it wasn't good enough for them. All we had to do now was pick up the keys and get ourselves moved in! I was unbelievably excited, mainly for my first chance at freedom.
"Sweetie are you ready?" Jack shouted. "Rian's on his way with Kara and I have no idea about Alex."
"I'm coming!" I shouted back. I taped my last little box shut, making me realise just how much stuff I'd left at the Merricks'. I had to go over and get it, but I needed the place to be empty; I'm not ready to face them yet. I brought it down with me and Jack put it in the back of my car. It was safe to say the Barakats were sad to see me go, even if I had been such a massive inconvenience for them since the moment I arrived. Joyce, in particular, was upset, seeing as I seemed to be the only person who could keep Jack under control. I didn't want to, but me and Jack need a break from each other.
"You have to let me come over some time," said May, engulfing me in the signature Barakat bear hug. "I'm gonna miss our girl time!"
I laughed quietly. "Definitely," I told her. Joe's goodbye was a little awkward; one night he walked in on me and Jack while in the shower...together. He couldn't live it down and cringed whenever he saw us being lovey-dovey. Actually, he just cringed whenever he saw me full stop. Jack's parents both hugged me and then we made our way there. I'll admit, the thought of saying goodbye to Jack was killing me, but I couldn't cry. That was a weakness. Crying doesn't solve anything. It felt like no time at all and we were there. Rian and Kara were already there waiting for us and, as predicted, Alex was running late getting Lisa. Still, we began to unpack and make the place at least look a little more home-like.
Kara sighed. "I'm so glad we're doing this." She said happily. "This is gonna be so good for us, especially you."
I smiled slightly. "Yeah, I guess.." I shrugged. "I'm just gonna miss Jack."
"The guys'll be coming over all the time!" She giggled, taking my hand.
"No, I mea-"
"FINALLY!" Kara squealed, totally bypassing me to greet Lisa. "I thought you were walking!"
"Yeah well if this doofus hadn't overslept, we'd have been here sooner," Lisa said coolly, glaring at Alex.
I sighed, continuing to bring my stuff into my new room. As much as I loved Kara, she was just too hyperactive for my liking. She'd bypass me for Lisa, leaving me mumbling to myself. The sickly sweet giggles of my two best friends filled my ears as they continued to go crazy over each other.
"Need a hand?" came a lazy tone that I adored. "Alex and Rian are bringing more stuff up."
"Sure." I nodded. I had no idea exactly what he could do; most of my stuff was still with the Merricks. But still, it was nice to have his company. "Not like I've got that much to put away." I snorted.
"Don't worry," he told me. "Zack still thinks you're at my place. I told him May's moving out so I'm gonna get him to help bring your things to my place while you're at work tomorrow night."
"You're the best." I smiled, pressing a kiss to his lips. "Oh I...sorry, I don't know what came over me."
"Don't keep apologising babe." He breathed, chuckling slightly. "I know we're on a break bu-"
"WHAT?!" Lisa squealed, dropping the box that was in her hands. "D-did you just say b-break?"
"Great..." I mumbled.
"Lis, this is just temporary." He told her. "We were gonna tell you guys as soon as you'd moved in and settled. Honest."
"I don't believe this," Lisa said angrily, coming into the room. "You guys can't break up."
"We're not breaking up!" I snapped.
"As good as!" She screamed back. "Lily, you know what happened to you guys last time. Do you seriously think you can cope with all that again?"
"This is different," Jack said defensively. "We both agreed to this, not just Lily deciding to end it."
Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked between us. "I don't believe you two." She said quickly, shaking her head slightly. "It's like you don't want each other to be happy."
"I could say the same about you and Alex." I piped up, finally feeling confident enough to stand up to her. "You mess that boy around so fucking much it's unreal. And he lets you, Lisa, that's the worst part. He knows when you're breaking up with him and he just takes it, like a fool. Don't act surprised, I'm not stupid." I paused to catch my breath; there was so much rage that needed to come out. "You act like you're such a sweet and kind person, but the reality is you're just sad and mean little girl! Fucking princess Lisa, who has to have things her way. Treat the guy with some respect for once!"
Jack squeezed my arm, making me stop shrieking at her. Lisa glared at me, then left my room with a slam of the door. I calmly lay down on my bed, where Jack joined me soon after, cuddling into me like nothing had happened.
