Dead motionless silence gripped Nikolai and I and the same stillness seemed to have an equal effect on our surroundings. It was so damn silent you could hear the sound of a pin drop and that send jolts of bloodcurdling fear down my spine.
I didn't move a muscle and neither did he, perfectly lined up between my legs which were wrapped loosely around his muscular torso with my hands framing his shoulders in a firm grip.
Whoever hid behind that door had a thing with timing, ruining the most fucking beautiful moment of my life where I got to make out with an actual gentleman who knew how to kiss crazy good and evoke bursts of pleasure without rubbing me between my legs.
Surely, I'd never experienced anything like this, never experienced a moment this passionate and magical, but something of this sort that came after our paradise wasn't completely unfamiliar.
Someone had been watching us for heaven knows how long and maybe even doing something worse than my imagination could capacitate.
I could hear a combined thud of our hearts beating hard in sync, incomprehensible tiny creatures crawling up my spine. The shadow moved again, this time taking a step boasting boldness given they were intruding and by the stealth of their moves, probably with sinister intentions.
I lowered my eyebrows, zooming my eyes in on the creep standing by the door, their upper body exposed at the glass part of the door. The reflection was vague and didn't give me enough room to accurately judge whether it was a man or a woman and the fact that they just stood there doing nothing in particular gave me more reason to worry.
Who were they and what were their intentions?
The first person that popped into my mind was Bryce fucking Pierson because this sort of sketchy behaviour seemed to suit him ever since he tried to assault me the night of the gala, but he was taller than the person I was looking at right now.
He'd definitely not be standing there either because the position I was in with another man would have aggravated him already to turn into a violent beast.
Was it maybe someone after Nikolai for some reason, a woman perhaps who craved to swap positions with me so badly and be the one under Nikolai at this moment?
If that were the case, I'd as well flip us over and ride him wildly on his desk while she watched because this was my moment and being interrupted in this manner was fucking rude and shameless.
Seriously, I was getting annoyed of creating theories in my head when they could act first and propel me to calculate my next move. Had they come unprepared on what their intention was or was this part of the actual plan to give us a jump scare when we least expected it?
In those few suspenseful seconds of uncertainty, I realised that feelings like those I felt at this moment were part of the reason why I was angry with the universe. Fear. Blind bloodcurdling fear of the unknown and what the future had stored for me.
I'd lived this life before. I'd felt this uneasy before, fighting for a sense of peace and freedom from the claws of predators lurking in the dark. The thought of going back there made my stomach clench and it sent waves of nausea up my throat.
Although I felt like I was stronger now and more mature to defend myself compared to back then, deep down I knew part of the demons were still there. A big part of me still had to heal to move on from those years of bondage to fear and vulnerability.
I felt Nikolai's hands tighten on my back as though in assurance that I was in good hands as I slowly unwrapped my legs from his torso. Just looking at him told me everything was going to be okay. I could tell he was thinking, shuffling through his mind for a defensive mechanism and the next move to take in a calculated manner.
