Leilani and I plopped onto the fluffy white carpet by the lit fireplace on our backs, chuckling uncontrollably.
After two hours straight of drinking vintage deep red wine of her choice and feasting on a large box of sizzling hot pizza and chocolate-dipped strawberries while deep in conversation, I wasn't sure why exactly we were chuckling, but fuck, it felt so good and uplifting.
Our chuckles softly died down as we lay still, looking up at the ceiling. I took a deep breath, allowing myself to feel everything I needed to feel. I wasn't completely drunk, and neither was Leilani.
She was tipsy and the alcohol was slowly beginning to work on my senses, but it wasn't over the top. It was just a tiny booster to unleash our true selves without holding back.
I felt alive and she was by my side. There was no better story to tell tonight. Flying to Denver was one of the best decisions I'd ever made in my entire life.
"Do you remember the day we first met?" Leilani asked me quietly, drawing my attention to her. "The weather was this stormy."
I listened to the rain pelting heavily on the rooftop, fresh memories of the day we'd met floating in my mind. The rain pouring torrentially tonight, bright purple streaks of lighting flashing and thunder roaring all reminded me of that day.
The only difference between that day three weeks ago and today was she wasn't lying lifelessly on a hospital bed with an emotionally fucked up guy holding her hand and praying she'd be okay. She was full of life and enthusiasm and she radiated that energy to me.
"Of course I remember," I acknowledged, a small smile touching my lips. "Everything was messed up as hell, but I got to meet you." My voice softened, as I tilted my head to the side to gaze at her. "That was a blessing in disguise."
Leilani's lips broadened into a smile. "And now we're caught up in a storm and it's all your fault," she accused playfully, bending her left leg such that her foot was set flat on the carpet.
I had secretly wished for this to happen. I'd intentionally trapped her in a conversation all afternoon long as we chilled in the blooming gardens, but eventually, we'd lost track of time deep in conversation until it'd started raining.
I couldn't see myself letting her go and spent the night in some empty hotel room all by herself when we could continue enjoying each other's company. I'd go insane without the ringing melody of her voice continuously warming my ears and her enticing scent seducing my soul.
Everything about her was beginning to fuck up with my senses and for the record, I was willingly letting myself get deeply fucked.
My eyes strayed to her slightly elevated leg as I felt dryness seize my throat, propelling me to swallow. She was still comfortably wearing just my shirt and with her knee raised like that, a large portion of her skin was tauntingly exposed to me.
I'd spent all afternoon trying to avoid staring at her long milky legs, but now that my shirt barely covered them in that position and nearly exposed her panties, my self-control was a millisecond away from snapping.
The fact that I knew the colour of the sexy lingerie she wore beneath my shirt had my stomach cartwheeling and my senses feral. Was she aware of what she was doing to me so mercilessly?
A soft giggle escaped her lips and I slowly drew my eyes back to her face. With her long luxuriant hair pooled around her head and bottom lip stuck between her teeth as a playful glint glimmered in her eyes, I wasn't sure if she understood how she wasn't helping the situation at all.
