Tumikhim si Marco Castiglione at tinitigan ang anak. "Robb, sabi ko magtanong, hindi mag-command."
"That's my question!"
"That's a command!"
Pinaglipat ni Madel ang tingin sa dalawang mala dios na lalaki sa harap niya. Were they really bantering in front of her?
Nang lingunin niya ang buong pamilya ay nakangiti ang lahat. They were finding humor in Robb's actions.
"Ask the question, son," utos ng tatay.
Ipinasok ni Robb ang kanang kamay sa bulsa ng suot na pants. Paglabas niyon ay may hawak na itong singsing.
She heard people's wow when the ring was shown. Hindi iyon naka-box. It was an orange stone verging into a red princess cut, in a platinum band. Bigger than usual but not oversized.
Napatingala siya sa lalaki mula sa pagkakatingin sa singsing. "Is that my birthstone?"
How did he know? Nah, nevermind!
"It was supposed to be," he answered.
She haven't seen topaz in that color. Close, but not it. Topaz was usually yellow, or yellow-orange the most. "What kind of Topaz is that?" hindi napigilang tanong niya.
"They called it imperial topaz. The best of it's kind." Kinindatan siya nito.
Now she really heard wows while she was blushing to death. What's not to like about this man? He was trying so hard to impress her!
Well, may kayabangan kasi, pero may ipagyayabang naman.
The father got their attention again. "Okay," sabi nito sa anak. "Your question?"
"Wait, akala ko ba practical question muna?" She asked Robb. Anything that would delay this.
"I don't have practical question," he bluntly said.
She tried to compose herself. May hinala na siya kung ano ang itatanong nito. And for the life of her. Hindi niya alam kung paano sasagot. Ayaw niya naman itong bastusin. He had been really gentle and patient on her. "Ask then," she said in a low voice.
He sighed really hard. And then cleared his throat before he spoke. "Will you, be the mother of my children?"
Nanlaki ang mga mata niya. Akala niya ay will you marry me ang itatanong nito. Mas madaling sagutin iyon!
Hindi ba nag-usap sila na walang sex? The man put her on the spot!
Pumihit paharap sa kanya si Marco.
Nang tingnan niya ang paligid. Lahat ay naghihintay ng sagot niya. They were not even smiling!
Tiningnan niya ng masama si Robb bago pumihit paharap sa tatay nito. "Can I defer my answer?"
