"We can't just fucking stand out here and wait." Clay argues. "This is not how this shit works, we can't."
"We're not trying to be the bad guys here." Karl argues, taking a deep breath.
"No, he's right." I whisper, swallowing the lump in my throat. "Sometimes, to defeat the villain, you've got to think like the villain."
He blinks, slowly turning his head towards me but I don't look back at him.
"I want to think how August would think. He would never wait, he'd make the first move because he knew it would've been easier to defeat us if we were defenseless and not ready for what was about to happen."
"Nick..." Karl tilts his head, intertwining his fingers with mine as he holds my hand up, placing a kiss on it. "You know better than anybody here."
"You know, I don't think August would be like that." A voice speaks up, stepping in between Karl and I. Asher. "He's ready, he just doesn't want to show it. I hate to say this, but he's smarter than you most of the time."
"Asher." Karl shoots him a look, rolling his eyes, but he just shrugs and steps forward.
"He's right." I nod my head, patting him on the back. "But then what? We both wait to strike the first move and the next thing we know we've all been standing here for perhaps hours."
"If nobody is going to do this, I will." George whispers suddenly, standing in the front, holding his gun up and shooting at the sky as they all march through the doors.
And all the gunshots have started to go off already.
Asher was right, they were definitely not defenseless and they were ready before us, holding their guns up the moment the first soldier stepped in.
The door doesn't open, I run through the broken glass instead, the number of lights blinding my eyes.
"Look out!" A voice yells, pushing me to the side as a bullet goes through the wall.
I have no idea who's standing next to me but we run, dodging an uncountable amount of bullets.
Fuck, these soldiers are immortal.
I let go of the arm of whoever is standing next to me as I lock the door of the room we run into, gunshots piercing holes through the door.
The person takes off their helmet as we try to push the door so that nobody opens it, but we're so close to failing because more than five soldiers are out that door, trying to kick it open.
I don't seem to recognize the girl. Even though I barely pay attention to her, I immediately can tell that I have no idea who she is.
I turn around for one second to try to lock the door but the next thing I know, a loud yelp comes out from the girl standing next to me.
A bullet goes right through her forehead as she falls to the floor, the walls covered in fresh blood now.
And I'm fucking surrounded by soldiers.
"Shit." I curse under my breath, letting go of the door all of a sudden and the soldiers fall to the floor, I shoot the three without hesitating.
Somebody grabs me from behind, forcing me to turn around and throwing a punch to my face, shattering the glass on the helmet which almost goes right into my eye.
I take it off, smashing it completely on his head before he can punch me again. It makes him stumble back but he doesn't fall to the floor, yet I get the chance to shoot him.
Hundreds of gunshots are being fired in the same millisecond, yet they all miss. One hits my shoulder, almost going through my arm but the bulletproof vest prevents it.
