A few months after my parents's separated, my dad got a new girlfriend who was also divorced.
Even though I wasn't excited to meet that woman, I needed to, because that would've made my father happy.
What he didn't tell me and my mother was, he wasn't just bringing a girlfriend,he was bringing a child too. My so called step sibling.
When I saw them, I couldn't help but suspect that they were like me.
I introduced myself to my step mom, a very nice lady may I say. But my mom didn't think so. She said she dressed 'provocatively', but I just thought that she's jealous, you could have seen it in her eyes.
The eyes are the portal to a one's soul, I could always tell what someone is feeling based off of their glance. Eyes are so beautiful, they hold so much emotion and so much energy.
My step sibling's eyes told me that they were trying to analize me, perhaps see if I'm a person to trust, or to mistrust.
The adults told me and my sibling to go upstairs in my bedroom because they wished to have a conversation alone. When we got into my bedroom, I asked them what's their favorite song, to break the awkwardness in the room.
They said'Boys will be bugs by Cavetown', which immediately awakened memories for me. This song was so nostalgic for me.
'I knew it!', I stated.
'Y-you knew what?' asked my sibling.
I gave them an up and down look with some pizzazz and brought up my arm while letting my hand fall down.
'Oooh! I get it now! I'll start, I'm Bug, he/him, and I actually hate bugs but my girlfriend likes them, she also picked out my name for me!' Bug said excitingly with a big grin on his face.
'Girlfriend, I see!Zephyr, he/him! I hate bugs too, and I have a boyfriend! How old are you by the way?', I told him interested for a chat.
Me and Bug had a LONG conversation about our lives and I made a new friend then and there!
After Bug, my father and his girlfriend left, I invited Emmerson over and told him the whole story. When I mentioned who Bug's girlfriend was, Emmerson said Monroe, Bug's lover, was our best friend's friend, Seth!
The both of us called Seth over and we chatted all night about that day, it felt like a reward.
Author's note:
Everything is a reward if you think about it that way, even pain. Pain is natural, pain is part of the human experience, we have to accept it, like everything in our lives.
Everything comes, everything goes, even us will be gone someday.
I know it's a scary thought, but, isn't it beautiful that we all have a thing in common?
We're all born and we're all going to die.
It's natural.
