Song: Begging You- Russ
"But it made you stronger."
I was a child.
I didn't need to be stronger.
I needed to be safe.
———————-Kenzie's POV:
Miles had finally convinced me after a few weeks of hounding me to go to therapy for everything I've been through, so here I am at Dr. Lynn's office. Signing up for therapy.
I have nothing against you who do it, but does it actually help? I feel like it's just a way for someone to dig inside of your mind, and tell you how fucked up your life has been. Maybe I'm wrong, and it'll help.
Once I have filled out the papers with all my information and whatever else they asked, I turn them into the lady with blue hair at the desk.
"She'll be right with you Miss. Collins." The blue haired lady tells me, and I nod. Don't judge, I'm not good with talking to people. Do I say thank you? Do I say okay? Saying thank you seems weird, and saying okay seems rude.
Ugh! I really need to work on my people skills.
After five minutes, a lady wearing a short sleeve purple blouse, and silver hair walks out of a door. "Kenzie Collins?" She calls me, and I stand up. "Hi Kenzie, I am Dr. Lynn, I will be your therapist for the time you want me to be. If you'll follow me please." She tells me, and I nod.
I follow her to the door she just came out of. When we enter the room I see a desk, a couple chairs, and a couch.
"Please, have a seat anywhere you'd like." Dr. Lynn tells me, and I nod. "Call me Lynn as well. I hate the 'doctor' part in front of my name. Makes me feel old, and like I force people to talk." She tells me, and I laugh.
"Yeah, Miles warned me about that already. He said and I quote, 'Dr. Lynn hates being called doctor, she'll tell you, it seems like she forces you to spill your life to her.' Unquote." I tell her, and she laughs.
"How is Miles and how do you know him?" She asks, and I laugh.
"He was my best friend when we were little. After his life story happened, his mom and my mom drifted away from each other. We got paired on a psychology project this year and reconnected. And to answer your other question, he's doing good. He's happy, passing all his classes, and is planning for college." I tell her, and she smiles.
"That's good, and how are you in school?" She asks, and I stiffen a little.
"I dropped out not too long ago actually. With everything that happened, keeping up with work from school and actual work, and my brother it was hard to keep everything on a schedule." I tell her, and she nods.
"Well, we do what we have to do when we are parents. You might not have birthed him, but he's still your child and you'd do a thing to make sure he's taken care of." Lynn tells me, and I nod. "I get it, my parents passed away when I was sixteen and my sister was eight. I dropped out, worked full time, got my GED, and look where I am now. Don't let people judge you, you'll get a great job." She assures me, and I smile.
"I haven't even thought about college. Which is crazy because in six months I would have been graduating." I tell her, and she nods.
"I know it seems crazy, but life flies by. You'll grow and accomplish amazing things." She tells me, and I smile.
"I know. It's just crazy, I remember a time before everything, and now here I am. A 'parent', a drop out, working two jobs, and having three best friends by my side. Real friends might I add" I explain, and she nods again.
