Kenzie's POV:

It's been a month since my birthday, and I can honestly say everything has been good. I don't want to jinx it, but I think this is going to be our year of happiness.

"You off Kenz?" Eli asks me, and I nod. "We'll see you later then." He says, and I say my goodbyes as I head to my car.

I get in my car, and head to Dr. Lynn's office.

Today is my last meeting with Dr. Lynn, and I can truthfully say that she has helped me. By the fourth appointment, I was willingly talking about the hell house and the monster, my moms death, and the fact that sometimes I need to ask for help.

After a short fifteen minute drive, I arrive at the office. I get out, head in, and sign in. Dr. Lynn comes out fast, and tells me to follow her.

We go into her office, and sit down. "How have you been?" She asks.

"I've been good." I tell her, and she smiles. "How are you?" I ask her, and she looks at me.

"Nope. We're not playing this game again. You tried it once, and it didn't work. It's not going to work now." She states, and I look at her confused.

"I'm not playing any game! I'm simply asking you how you are." I promise, and she nods.

"So this is your last session?" She asks, and I nod. "Do you honestly feel like these have been helpful?" She asks me, and I nod.

"I do. I feel like I've e come a long way. Accepting what's happened, being able to talk about it without struggle, and I even faced Jarred in court. It was a little nerve racking, but I did it." I tell her, and she smiles.

"Again, I am sorry we had to cancel our appointments during the end of December and beginning of January. But tell me how the court went." She says, and I nod.

"Well, we had enough physical evidence to help our case, he lied to my lawyer when she asked him a question, and the judge was the same one who signed my emancipation papers and legal guardianship of Kinsler. So that helped, and then the jury ruled him guilty on all charges. Jarred got life without parole, and no contact to the outside world. He also threatened to get out, and kill me." I say with a shrug as if it was nothing.

"That's great! What's your next step?" She asks, and I shrug.

"Continue living how I have been. Working, making sure Kinsler is taken care of, and having fun. I don't see any other way of living." I admit honestly, and she nods.

"I know your birthday was a few weeks ago, how was it?" She asks, and I sigh. "Uh oh, not good?" She asks, and I shake my head no.

"It was one of the best birthdays, but according to Dravon, my mom told his mom she had a bad feeling about going back to the house. She bought me a gift for my eighteenth and twenty first birthday. She also bought Kinsler some for his future big birthdays." I explain, and she nods.

"And you're mad at her for going back even when she had a feeling not to?" She asks, and I nod. "That's normal." She assures, and I look at her.
