"Lilah, could you come here please?"

My name is Delilah Elizabeth Moore and I'm 14.

My parents, Mr. and Mrs. Detective Moore, were beaten and killed in front of me when I was five.

My relatives didn't put up any effort to raise me as I became mute after what had happened.

I was put into an orphanage, and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn, the owners, have been taking care of me and the others since.

"Lilah, come on, babe, you gotta do your chores." Mrs. Lynn was only 32 and had two children of her own.

I walked out of my room and down the stairs towards the front room.

"Lilah, we have guests coming, so could you sweep around the front?"

I nodded, and grabbed the broom.

I started sweeping when someone knocked on the door.

I rang the bell that signaled there was a family coming.

"Okay, children, this is what you've been waiting for. Don't be discouraged if they don't pick you. Remember we all love you the same." Mr. Lynn told the children who were eligible to be adopted.

I opened the door, and the couple came in.

"Hi, welcome. I'm Rayna and this is my husband, Rob. What age group are you looking at today?"

"Hi. I'm Jay and this is Dan. We are looking at the newborns." (hehehehe)

"Oh, right this way. Boys, girls, go and play. Don't be too loud now."

Mrs. Lynn took the couple down the hall towards the nursery.

Mr. Lynn went to watch the younger children, while I was still sweeping.

"Lilah, will you play with me?" Roy, who had been here since he was one, asked me.

I motioned towards the broom, and he seemed to understand.

He looked upset, but I put up my hand, motioning for five more minutes.

He squealed, and ran off to his toys.

I finished sweeping, and walked over to where Mr. Lynn was sitting.

I motioned towards Roy, and he nodded. I walked back over to Roy and picked up a car.

"Del, do you think I'll ever get adopted?"
