I got the job as a cashier in a supermarket. I was starting next week. I wasn't excited about that job, however it would have to do for now. I left L.A. after getting my stuff at my place. I put on some music for my roadtrip, then I felt something weird in my steering wheel. I pulled over and got out of my car to realize one of my tires was punctured. Fuck. I sighed.
I was helpless when it came to cars, I had to call someone. The only two people I knew in this city were Jess (I'm not sure she would know how to do this) and Zacky. I hesitated, I barely knew the guy, but I decided to ring him anyway as I took another look at my flat tire.
"Hello."
"Hey Mister V. It's Ali, again. I'm sorry to bother you, would you know by any chance how to change a flat tire? You would actually save me."
I heard him laugh.
"Yes. Text me your location. I'll be right over."
After sending him my location, I thought about how I didn't know who he was and how I was trusting him with my safety, letting him fix my car. My curiosity was now killing me. I gave in and started Googling him as I waited for him to come meet me. He was a guitar player in a band named Avenged Sevenfold. The name was familiar, I thought I heard one of their songs on the radio recently. Damn, those guys are handsome. Zacky arrived, I quickly put away my phone, I walked up to him and hugged him.
"Oh my god, you are literally saving me you know that ? "
"It is common knowledge to change a tire, you know that? " He mocked me.
" Maybe for you, thank you sir" I smiled.
He was staring at me for a few seconds. I could have sworn time stopped for a moment.
"So... you are Zacky Vengeance. That's an interesting name" I added, as I named the man standing in front of me. I finally knew who he was. A smile was all over his face.
"Finally", he said. "I thought you weren't into Google. " He added.
"Guess I was only into Zacky Vengeance's side of Google." I giggled and smiled."Just wanted to know who I was calling for help, you know..."
"Cali girl doesn't like living dangerously after all."
"I guess I don't." I shrugged.
He put the spare on, damn was he hot doing that. He followed me back home, saying I couldn't drive that far and he would take me to the mechanic to drop off my tire to get it fixed, I'd have to call my parents to tell them I wouldn't be visiting.
" Thank you so much Zacky."
"This is not goodbye. You were going somewhere. I'll get you there."
" No, no, no way Zack. You've done more than enough. " I shook my head.
"I've got nothing better to do." He said, picking up my tire and putting it in his car.
" I can't possibly ask you to spend the weekend in my hometown. No, I am canceling."
"Why the heck not ? Let's go. You have plans, I have none. I'll pick you up Sunday morning . Unless you don't want me to take you. I'm not a creep, I don't want you to feel forced, you know... I'm not like that."
I smiled and thought about it for a moment.
"You know it's a three hour drive?"
" I have a great playlist for a road trip." He grinned.
"I'll pay for gas." I commanded.
" Like hell you are. Get your stuff and get in. I already had my stuff ready for the weekend in my car."
On the road, we talked more about his band and his music. He was living for now in a house with his bandmates since their last record, City of Evil. I don't remember all of their names, I only recall some nicknames like Synyster Gates and The Rev. One of them had a girlfriend named Valary.
He dropped me off at my parent's house.
" If you need me, I'll be at the only motel in town." He said.
"We have a guest room, you know?" I didn't want him to pay extra while he was here because of me.
" I don't want to intrude and..."
"You wouldn't." I interrupted him. "You helped me. That's the least I can do"
"I brought my guitar, I wanted to practice. If you want to, we could grab dinner tomorrow though. "
" I'd like that. Are you sure you don't want to come in ?"
" I'm sure. I'll pick you up at six? "
"That is perfect. Thanks again for everything".
He left. How perfect was that guy.
