Jimmy caught me staring at him.
"What?" He was smiling.
"Nothing. I was just thinking about how I felt this whole weekend with you.I was drunk yesterday but everything I said is still true. I want you to know that reconnecting with you is the highlight of this past year, and a lot happened this year, in between my break up with my ex in jail, moving here, Zacky…”
"Only this year? I thought I was the highlight of a lifetime. Allow me to remind you you wanted to be stuck with me every day of your life " He smirked.
"We'll see about that." I shrugged.
"Oh, okay." He faked being disappointed. "I'm happy too. I’ll make sure to be back as soon as I can before that LA show next month."
I'm sure it was a brother-sister kind of relationship to him, I mean, it was always like this, but today I couldn't help myself but wonder why that crush came back, 8 years later.
When Jimmy left, it felt like all of the other parts of my life were now coming back to me. My job, my friends, Zacky… I almost forgot about his letter. I walked into my room and reached for it. I was anxious, but I started reading it.
"Hi, Ali… I am so sorry it had to come to this. What we had was good. I never wanted to hurt you, but now I know why it didn't work… Like you said, I am still in love with her and I have to give myself the chance to try and fix it, give her a chance. I am so sorry, but I can't help my feelings. I hope everything will be fine when we see each other because of Jimmy. I know this is not what you would've expected, but I hope you find the strength to forgive and forget me. Thank you, Zacky."
"THANK YOU?" I yelled.
I took a sharpie and wrote "Hope you're happy with her, asshole. Thank you." I threw the note away. I was so pissed, my eyes filled with tears. I had to go for a run. I changed and went out the door.
When I came back, Jess was on the couch.
"What is going on? You yelled and then you left?" Jess looked at me confused.
I told her to read the letter that was in the trash, so she did.
“He really said thank you?” Jess was confused too. I’m glad I wasn’t overreacting.
“I know, right? What a fucking joke. I should’ve never fallen for this guy.” I shook my head.
“I’m sorry, hon.”
I took a deep breath.
"I knew this could happen, it's just that deep down, I wish it would've ended differently. Now I know for sure. I can't be mad at him."
I cried for a moment, but I stopped after a couple of minutes. I already started grieving this relationship and I was right to leave in the first place when I did. Better now to know.
I was distracted by my phone ringing. My mom was calling me.
“Hey Mom. What’s up?”
“Hey, honey, how are you?”
“Not that great, but I'll be fine. How are you?”
“Not so great either. Can you come home? We have something to talk to you about.” I sensed the worry in her voice.
“Mom, what is wrong? You're worrying me. Tell me now.”
“ It’s your father… They called us about his results. We just came back from his doctor’s appointment.”
