We set up Jess’ room and talked about her breakup. She was single for good this time, she wouldn’t go back to him, at least that’s what she promised to herself.

A week passed, I spent most of my time with her and I worked. The day after we slept together, Zacky called me . I’ve been busy since then, but we saw each other in our classes, even though we were just chatting for the most part. He kissed me goodbye in the parking lot once as we were leaving at the same time.

It was currently eight pm on Monday, I just closed the tattoo shop, the last client left at seven. I went home to find Jess asleep on the couch. I forgot my phone at home, so when I looked at the screen, I saw I had three unheard messages. I listened to them. One of them was from Marc, saying he applied for parole and there was a hearing this weekend. I felt my heart beat faster as I realized he was trying to get out and was already calling me. I deleted the message and listened to the next one.

“Hey, friend, it’s Jimmy. I wanted to make plans with you and Zacky this weekend if you’re free. I tried him, but he didn't answer. Call me back, I can’t wait to see you again.”

The third one was from my mom.

“Hey honey, it’s Mom. I just wanted to know if you wanted to come this weekend, your dad’s pneumonia got worse. Call me back. “

I called my mom back and told her I would be visiting this weekend, I had this weekend off.  I then called Jimmy.

“Hey Jim.”

“Hey, Ali” He seemed happy.

“What’s up?”

“You heard my message?”

“Yeah, I did. I did not talk to Zacky, he was not in class today. I saw him friday.”

“That’s weird, I texted him today, but since this afternoon, he hasn't replied. I’ll try him again.”

He made me worry, even though he did talk to him today. But he was right, I texted him to know where he was, but I didn’t get a message back. Maybe he was avoiding me?

“So, what are you doing tonight? We could hit the bar.” I offered.

“Tonight? Don’t you have school tomorrow morning?” He asked.

“What? What did you say? So you wanna join me here or at the bar?” I feigned ignorance.

“Ali, do not tempt me, you do know I am not asleep until 3. I’ll be in my car in ten minutes if you just say the word. But I’ll need a place to stay since Zacky doesn’t answer.”

“It’s all set, then. You can sleep here.” I answered. “I’ll try to get in touch with him. Come meet us here.”

We hung up. I called Zacky, but reached his voicemail. I texted him, telling him his friend was coming over and we were gonna go to the bar when he arrived. Jess woke up.

“Where are you going?” She asked.

“You might wanna rephrase. Where are WE going… We are gonna hit the bar when Jimmy gets here. You better get ready.”

“I’m not going… Wait, nevermind. Jimmy… As in The Rev?” She stood up.

“Yeah, The Rev.”

“Fuck. I look like an absolute mess.”

“You have about an hour before he picks us up.”

“I’ll go shower”.

She disappeared and I laughed. I called Nick to ask if he wanted to come, he accepted. I told him to meet at my place in an hour. In the meantime, I got a text from Zacky, he was sick with some kind of flu since yesterday, he stayed in bed all day. I asked him to tell me if he needed anything. He told me he was already feeling better, but he was afraid he was still contagious. He asked me to stay safe and made me promise to call him if I needed a lift.

An hour later, someone knocked at my door, I opened to find Jimmy on the other side. He managed to get here before Nick even though he lived an hour away. He wrapped me in a big hug.

“Hey, you, I’m happy to see you”. I told him.

“So am I. Are we ready?”

“Jess, my roommate is getting ready and we’re waiting for Nick, my colleague, a tattoo artist, to come and meet me here.”

Jess arrived and froze when she saw him.

“Hi!” She blurted, after a moment.

“Hey! I know this look. You’re a fan?” He asked. She nodded. I would never get used to people’s reaction meeting them, seeing the surprise on their face was priceless. She turned to show her tattoo dedicated to them.

“You didn’t tell me about this tattoo?”

"Guess I was too shy to show it when your guy was here." Jess shrugged.

"What is she talking about, "your guy" ?" Jim asked.

"I have some things to tell you, let's do this later. By the way, he's not coming tonight, he's sick. "

Nick arrived and we went to the bar.
