48 - Random guy wasn't random

Back to my place, we found Zacky and Brian awake, packing their bags to go back on tour.

"Hey guys! We got food." I said.

"Thank you." Brian came instantly and took some bagel and hash brown out of the bag before taking a bite.

"Can I ask you something real quick?" Zacky asked me, seemingly pissed.

"Yeah?" I was not sure what this anger towards me was about.

"What do you need to tell me?"

"Can we talk about it… alone?"

"That doesn't seem necessary, since he already knows." Zacky pointed to Jimmy.

"You heard us this morning." I realized.

"Yeah, I did. Are you sleeping with him?" He asked me.

"Bro, what the fuck?" Jimmy looked at his friend, eyes wide, filled with surprise.

"No, Zacky, I did not sleep with Jimmy."

Brian who was still standing up, mouth full, simply uttered " I'll just… go take that shower now."

Brian disappeared and Jimmy was about to do the same.

"No, stay, whatever this is, you already know."

"Zacky, this was not my place to say. She was about to tell you today." Jimmy said in a soft voice, trying to calm down his friend.

"Well, let's hear it." Zacky lowered his voice a little, but still was pissed that something was hidden from him. I couldn't blame him. He was right.

"I will be packing my suitcase in the bedroom if you guys need me." Jimmy left.

We sat on the couch.

"This is something I wanted to tell you first on the phone after reading your letter, but you were busy that night and I changed my mind. Not that this is an excuse, but I figured I could not tell you this over the phone…" I paused. "When we were apart, I went to a bar one night and I kissed a random guy. This guy was cute, he looked like you, I was grieving our relationship… "

"And? I don't see the problem in that?"

"Nothing else happened more than that kiss. I know this in itself is not bad. It is just that this random guy I kissed happens to be… your brother. I found out at the show when he showed up, I had no idea."

"Oh, shit."

"Yes. That's messed up, I know. "

"So this is what you were keeping from me?"

"Yes."

"Okay…"

"So… what do you think?"

"I mean, of all the people you could've hooked up with on this planet, that person had to be related to me." He laughed ironically.

"First, we kissed once and that was it. Two, I would've never done it if I'd known. To be fair, I never met your family. Over the last months, we’ve been together unofficially for like two minutes, but how could I have known, huh? He feels bad about it too."

"So you talked to my brother? Was I even supposed to learn about this?" His shrug showed hostility. I felt bad. "Everyone seems to know except me."

“Your brother came to me asking me to tell you since he didn't want to keep this from you. Other than that, Jimmy and Jess are the ones who know. I’m sorry I brought in Jimmy on this, I can imagine how it must feel for you, but I didn’t know who else to say it to. Jimmy's my best friend. However, it's unfair to him that I told him, I put him in an uncomfortable position, given he's your best friend too. ”

“You two seem more than that to be honest. And that bothers me even more.” Ouch. Even him could feel it.

“Zacky, I don’t know what to tell you other than nothing happened between us. He holds a special place in my heart. "

" I know… but if I'm being honest here.. I wonder what place he really has. Maybe you don't even know yourself, but I don't know man... Maybe it's just jealousy, but something is bothering me about your relationship, I have to admit it. As for my brother. I don't know how I feel about that kiss. But I'm mad. Because you should've stayed with me. And not forget me with some random dude who turns out to be my relative."

" Zacky, I can't change what happened. But, you needed to deal with your feelings for Gena. I'm glad you finally did. Now, I need to deal with my feelings and my dad. So I can't be with you right now. Not until I figure it all out."

"The thing is, the girlfriend offer still stands on my part. I still love you. But I won't be with someone who isn't sure about me either."

"I get it… My feelings changed Zacky. They are not the same anymore. But I still felt something when you kissed me yesterday."

"Before you had a panic attack because our friend stopped us? Because after that, you looked like you regretted everything. That's not enough for me."

"I mean it was too fast."

"It wasn't for me... "

We stayed in silence for a moment.

"Think about it… let's take a break and see where life leads us. I'll leave you the space and time you need."  He suggested.

“I’m so sorry about everything. And that I’m not giving you the answer you’re looking for today.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry too…”

I was surprised there was no yelling involved. For sure, the fact that there were no crazy ex involved this time was helping. I was a little heartbroken, but I couldn’t figure out if it was because I would truly miss him or because I didn’t want to hurt him. Either way, I was proud this was handled in a mature way. Plus, since the beginning of this relationship, things have always been complicated, due to my ex, then his ex, and now my dumb feelings for his best friend. Now, how could I handle those? I could not exactly avoid him, but at least we would get some time apart, with him being on tour.

Zacky left a few minutes later for the airport. Brian and Jimmy followed as well after eating breakfast.

"I'll call you when I go to my parent's house so you can come with me. Should be soon."  Jimmy said.

"I'm so excited to see your parents again. It's been a while."

"They only talk about you since they know we reconnected. They don't fucking care about what I do anymore. " He chuckled.

"Awwww… tell them I love them and that I can't wait to see them."

"I will."

Jess and I hugged both Syn and The rev and they left. I noticed Syn hugging Jess closely before letting go.

"What was that?" I asked her.

" I don't know Ali, I am freaking out. Am I dreaming ? " Jess said.

"The way he touched you? Definitely not dreamed that. He LIKES you."

"Well, he invited me for dinner in a couple of weeks."

We celebrated this invitation and I got ready for work. Nick and I both left at the same time to go to work together.
