I stayed silent so I could hear what it was they could be talking about.
“Well, I can be wrong, but son, I wouldn’t be surprised she’s in love with you. I see how you look at her too…”
“Dad, sure I want to find someone, but I don’t think she sees me that way. She’s in love with my best friend. At least, she was…”
“I saw she is wearing your necklace, right?”
They really were talking about me. I pulled myself together and I pretended I just walked there, making sure I made noise this time. They stopped talking, as expected, and both turned their heads in my direction while smiling.
“I’m gonna leave you two and I’ll be back with your drinks.” Joe said, his hand still on his son’s shoulder.
“You’re the best, Joe.” I said before thanking him.
Joe left and I looked at Jim, smiling at me.
“Your turn now to play something for me.”
Jimmy sat on his seat before starting a fast drum solo. That guy was so freaking talented, he played ten minutes worth of new drum beats, some highly complex stuff compared to what I managed to play a few minutes before.
"Can you keep a secret?"
"Yeah. What?" What could it be? The secret you just shared with your dad?
"I'm going to play something that will very likely end up on our next album, and I may or may not sing on it."
"Oh my god, yes, I’ll keep the secret.” I enthused.
Jimmy played a song while singing and mumbling on what seemed like the bridge and chorus parts.
"I'm not insane… I'm not… not… insane…Mother… said it all… "
Jimmy kept on mumbling lyrics here and there and managed to stay on beat while he was clearly improvising some lyrics and testing if it fit the song.
"That's exactly what I was referring to this morning, your creativity." I said as soon as the song ended. "I'm in love." I realized what just came out of my mouth. "... with this song and your voice." I added, hoping he would ignore the first part of my sentence. He giggled.
"If you reveal or share info about this to anyone else, I will have to kill you." He said as he ran his drumstick along his throat to threaten me.
"Is that a threat, Mr. Sullivan?" I started laughing.
"Oh, it very much is. " He said, standing up and walking towards me, until he was facing me. He took a strand of my hair and twirled it. I could swear I stopped breathing for a second.
"Well, if you kill me, I'll be back from the dead to haunt you and kill you after." I said with an amused tone, trying to lighten the flirty mood.
"That's brilliant. Then we'll haunt everyone we meet along the way until the end of time." He locked his eyes into mine and the corner of his mouth quirked up. He then looked away and started walking towards the garage door. "I have to do something… I'll be back."
Jimmy just left without explaining where he was going, just after the thought of brushing my lips on his entered my brain. Joe reappeared, two drinks in his hands. He handed me one of them.
"Where did he go?" His dad asked.
"I have absolutely no idea. We were talking, then he just said he had to do something and left."
"Probably locked himself in his room. You've given him an idea."
We were walking towards the house to go back inside.
