As we entered the room backstage, I realized I'd see Zacky for the first time in months and I panicked. Mom asked me if I was alright, I simply nodded and scanned the room, hoping the guys wouldn't be here. It was empty except for Jess and Nick who were enjoying the band's booze.
"Hey friends!" I hugged them both.
"Want a shot?" Jess offered.
"Absolutely. Pour one for everyone."
My mom tried to resist, but she drank a shot like everyone else, including my dad who was determined to have a great night. The guys didn't come back before the show, but we were told the guys from Metallica were here so we talked to their security guy who allowed us in.
"Hi guys" I said.
"Hey, Alissa, right?" James remembered my name.. "You're with A7X if I remember correctly." Lars came and gave us a hug.
"I am. I wanted to wish you good luck for the show, and I wanted you to meet someone special, a very big fan of yours, my dad."
"Hey man, nice to meet you...? " James said.
"Mike."
I let them chat while I was going to get myself a drink at the venue's bar. I met Jason Berry in the corridor and I suddenly had a flashback of the last party where everything went wrong. Now that I was here, I felt unwelcomed, I just wished I would not meet Zacky nor Gena tonight. I wanted to avoid them at all costs, good for them if they were happy, I just didn't want to witness it.
On my way backstage, someone named Matthew came up to me. He remembered me, but I did not. He reminded me that I kissed him on a certain night at a bar, how I wished I would not be reminded of that. I quickly left, but I noticed he also had an AAA VIP pass around his neck. I hope he was not with A7X, god that would be awkward.
Dad had the chance in the meantime to talk to every single one of them, get pictures and have his CD signed. We stayed for a while until we were told it was time to go see Avenged play. We said goodbye to the band and Jason Berry came to us and showed us both ways we could enjoy the show : In front of the railing or the side of the stage. We went in front of the railing, where photographers were to experience the crowd's energy.
The crowd was intense, they were chanting "Sevenfold, Sevenfold" and I felt terrified as I heard some fans shouting at us. The guys walked up on stage and the crowd screamed even louder.
The moment I noticed Zacky grabbing his guitar, I felt weird. He was looking so good tonight, with a chic white long sleeve shirt and a red bowtie. I felt a pinch in my stomach, the breakup was fresh and there was no denying I was still hurt now that I had him in front of me. However, the moment I laid eyes on Jimmy is when I realized something changed. My knees got weak at the sight of this shirtless drummer in front of me, with eye black stripes. I screamed like a fangirl and Jimmy seemed to notice, he smiled at us and waved his hand before twirling his drumsticks. The show began with Beast and the harlot. They were killing it. We all enjoyed it. At one point...
"Zacky's staring at you." My sister lightly poked my ribs with her elbow.
I looked at him and Em was right. He smiled slightly at me and I smiled back politely. I had to admit his smile still had me in some way. But I reminded myself I was here because of my friend or my crush or whatever I could call him and the plan was still to avoid Zacky and his psychopath of a girlfriend.
So I ignored him for the rest of the show. I was focused on the rest of the band, especially Jimmy, let's be honest. I could not get used to his talent, even years later. Jess made a comment about Zacky too, saying he would like to talk to me later on tonight. I didn't understand why so I coldly replied that I had no intention of speaking with him. What was wrong with him? Did he write that letter while he was angry and now he had regrets? Why did he look at me that way, looking like he was begging me for forgiveness? God...
