Chapter Fourteen- Kassidy

Kassidy watched as both women stared at her for a moment before looking at one another. Carina moved over to the young girl before kneeling down in front of her and taking her hands in her own, and asking the girl a question of her own, "Do you like running bambina?"

Kassidy thought for a moment, weighing up her options, however in the end she shook her head no. Kassidy had never liked running but when it came down to it Lane didn't care. To Kassidy, running was a way of survival, I meant she was allowed to eat if she won, It made him happy when she won but it was never something she enjoyed. And if she was being honest, she was exhausted from running.

She looked up at the Italian and saw a sad smile on her face, and she listened to her speak to her once again. "Then you don't need to run Bambina. We don't ever want to do something like that if you don't want to. Va bene?"

Kassie stared at her and then at Maya for a moment, she had never been allowed to have a choice in things that she would do. It was always Lane making the choices for her. So as Kassidy started to process what she had been told she nodded, she didn't have to run anymore. Or at least not yet.

The following morning Maya, Carina and Kassidy all got up and ready for Kassidy's hospital appointment. Breakfast had gone a lot easier than it had the past few days with the helpful addition of music, which seemed to work well. After Maya had cleared up the mess from breakfast they all left the apartment and left for the hospital.

During the car ride Maya and Carina could tell Kassidy was becoming increasingly more anxious, her hand constantly moving and she was tapping on the yellow cast on her arm. Maya turned back and looked at her niece, her heart hurt looking at how worked up she was getting. The older blonde began to speak, "Hey bubs, do you want to do something after your appointment? We could do pretty much anything."

Kassidy looked at her aunt, before shrugging her shoulders. If she was being honest she didn't know what to do, she never got to be a part of the decision making before.

Much to Kassidy's dismay they arrived at the hospital fairly quickly, both Maya and Carina got out and offered their hand to the teen, but eventually she opted to take Carina's hand. As soon as they stepped through the threshold of the hospital doors Kassidy froze making both Maya and Carina stop with her. Kassie's eyes looked around the room quickly, the anxious look that she seemed to have on her face a lot seemed to get worse and tears from the feeling of being overwhelmed welled up into her eyes.

Maya moved in front of the small girl and kneeled down in front of her taking the girls hands in her own, "Hey bubs look at me, look at me bubs," Maya spoke trying to get Kassidy's attention, the small girl eventually looked at Maya, before talking to her once she had got Kassie's attention. "I know it's scary, and I know it's a lot but you are going to get through it. Do you want the headphones?"

Kassidy nodded, and put them on as soon as they were given to her and she watched as Maya began to play the playlist. Kassidy lifted her arms up to Maya, desperately wanting to be held because everything seemed too much. Maya obliged and picked her up and began to walk with Carina to the paediatrics floor where they would be meeting Doctor Bailey for Kassidy's appointment. Upon arrival Carina got Kassie checked in while Maya carried the young girl over to some of the free seats in the waiting room.

They sat for 15 minutes before getting called, Maya had tried to get Kassie to walk however the idea was short lived as Kassie clung to Maya so she carried her to the exam room with Carina walking with them. Once they had made it to the exam room, she placed Kassidy down to the exam table, hoping that they would be able to get her to stay there for the duration of the appointment. Kassidy reluctantly let go of the grip that she had on Maya's shirt. The small blonde looked at Maya and then at Carina tears welling up in her eyes.
