Carina woke up the following morning to Maya's voice, she was talking softly to Kassidy who let out a small giggle which Catina knew was Kassidy. Carina opened her eyes and looked over and saw Maya perched on the side of Kassidy's bed with her phone in her hand, both blondes looking at the screen.
"Buongiorno belle ragazze," Carina spoke, her voice still filled with sleep. Kassidy looked over and gave Carina a small smile. Maya looked over before standing up and walking over to Carina and placing a kiss on her forehead and then her lips. Carina smiled, "What are you pair up to?"
"I was telling Kassidy about some calls that I have been on, and someone thinks it is funny the amount of cats I have had to save," Maya told her girlfriend, as she moved back over to sit with Kassidy. The teen moved and snuggled into Maya's chest, obviously content with the blonde's touch. Carina's heart melted as she watched her girlfriend with her niece, obviously finding comfort in one another.
The morning continued and Kassidy spent the morning drawing (after the attempt of getting her to eat, which caused Kassidy to panic, and took almost an hour to calm her down) and Maya and Carina continued to talk amongst one another and also watching Kassidy. A few nurses had stopped by to check on Kassidy but other than that the three hadn't been disturbed. But they were soon broken out of their bubble by the ringing of Maya's phone which made Kassidy jump and look around the room frantically. Carina moved over to Kassidy while Maya left the room to take the call. The brunette held open her arms inviting the young girl into her arms, which the child accepted curling up once she was in Carina's arms, her head resting on Carina's heart just listening as she tried to keep herself calm.
Maya walked back into the room, Carina picking up immediately on Maya's change in mood. She looked at Maya tilting her head to the side silently asking Maya a question.
"I am being called in, there is a structure fire and they need me to come to the station in case it goes to a four or five alarm." Maya's voice had become monotone, no emotion was evident in her voice. Carina held out her hand trying to get Maya to come over, Kassidy looking over after she heard that Maya might be leaving. Maya moved over before standing in front of Carina and Kassidy. Carina was aware that the last time Maya went out on a big call, like this one might become, she had lost Pruitt Herrera, her former Captain.
"Bambina, while I don't want you going I know you need to, hopefully you won't be called to the scene, however if you do I know you will do everything in your power to come home and I will be waiting for you right here, and so will the stellina," Carina spoke softly to the older blonde, before pulling her by the wrist and pulled her into a kiss. It was quick and just before she left Maya kissed Kassidy's forehead and told Carina that she loved her before leaving.
Kassie's blue eyes started to fill with tears as she watched Maya walk out of the room, Carina held the little girl tighter as she started to cry for Maya, just from the way she was crying it made Kassidy seem a lot younger than she truly was, however Carina was aware that this may have stemmed from the years of abuse and trauma that she had been through.
An hour after Maya had left, Kassidy had cried herself to sleep in the Italians arms. It broke Carina's heart to hear the sobs that came from Kassidy. It was evident that the teen had grown attached to Maya and herself, and if Carina was being honest she had grown attached to the young girl too and so had Maya.

It was around noon when one of the nurses came back into the room, bringing lunch for Kassidy. Kassidy was still fast asleep, obviously exhausted from the crying that she had done earlier. Carina began rubbing the girl's back trying to gently wake her up.
Carina was aware of what Lane had done to Maya to wake her up in the morning to get her up to train, so Carina didn't want to take any risks when trying to wake Kassie up.
"È ora di svegliarsi dolce ragazza," Carina spoke softly while stroking Kassidy's hair, as the the blonde teen began to stir out of sleep, it took a few minutes but Carina was soon met with a pair of blue eyes that she had began to fall in love with. Kassidy looked startled as she began to wake up but soon calmed slightly she realised that she was in Carina's arms. Carina spoke again as she looked at Kassidy, "There are those blue eyes, it is time to eat bella, "
"Noooo..." Kassidy groaned, hiding her face in Carina's chest and starting bringing her right hand up to her hair and starting to pull on her blonde locks.
"Ah ah ah, none of that Bambina," Carina said, gently untangling Kassidy's hands from her hair and held on to her wrist, "It's okay, we are going to do a little bit at a time,"
Kassidy tried fighting against Carina's hold on her but due to how weak she wasn't able to fight against the Italians' gentle hold. Carina began rocking her back and forth, trying to get her to calm down like she had watched and done in the last few days. It took less time than it had the times before but she eventually calmed down enough for Carina to let go of her wrist.
"We need you to eat something Kassidy, otherwise you are going to get really sick." Carina spoke softly, needing Kassidy to understand that they weren't going to let her not eat. She needed her to understand that she was allowed to eat whenever she needed to. Carina was about to speak again when she got cut off by a small voice.
"I am not allowed too, he said only winners get to eat," Kassidy's voice shook as she spoke, obviously still slightly worked up. Carina looked at the little girl, her eyes were now glazed over and in pain from all of the trauma.
"You are allowed to eat, whether you win or lose. You don't need to follow his rules anymore." Carina told Kassidy before placing a kiss on the crown of her head and continuing, "You will always be worthy of food, and Maya and I will spend everyday trying to show you that."
"I haven't run, I need to run, he is going to be so mad... He is going to..." Kassidy spoke before stopping herself from speaking.
"He is going to what bambina?"
"He is going to hurt me..."
Carina hugged Kassidy tight, her heart shattering. Part of her wanted to murder Lane Bishop, but she knew that wouldn't do anything for Maya or Kassidy. She wanted to keep both of them safe.
"No one is going to hurt you Kassidy, he would have to get through a whole army of people before he ever got to you,"
"I don't have an army..."
"But you do sweetheart, you have your Zia Maya's family at the fire station, and My Brother and all of our friends at the hospital."
"But they don't even know me," Kassie responded, looking at the door.
"But they know Maya and I, and they would do anything to help family,"
Carina began to try and convince Kassidy to eat, which took an hour and a half to convince her to take the first bite of the food that had been brought to her. In the end she only had half a sandwich and few pieces of carrots, which was all that Carina was able to get the teen to eat.
Carina wanted Maya to come back, she wanted Maya to help reassure Kassidy that she was worthy of food. But for right now all she really wanted was for Maya to be safe.
