As Maya left the hospital she felt anxious, all she wanted to do was run back to Carina and Kassidy. She heard Kassidy's cries as she began to walk down the hallway. She just wanted to hold her niece and her girlfriend, she wanted to be in that bubble of love for just a bit longer before she had to go back to work. She wanted to be with her family.

Did it scare her that she loved her niece as much as she did? Yes, she was terrified that she was going to lose her, that Kassidy was going to be sent back to living with Lane, that the little girl was either going to end up dead or just as broken as Maya felt.

Maya arrived at the station quickly, much quicker than she would have liked. She walked in and saw Vic on desk with Ben standing talking to her about something that must of happen after she left yesterday morning. "Morning Captain," Ben spoke, a small smile on his face.

"Warren Hughes, any word on what's happening?"

"It's a three alarm at the moment, five stations are there at the moment. We haven't heard anything else yet," Ben informed Maya, knowing that Maya would want to know as much as possible. The blonde nodded and then ran upstairs to the locker room to change into her uniform just in case they did end up being called to the scene, going to the beanery to see who else was there.

"19!" the blonde fire captain yelled as she walked into the room, the team replied with a strong '19!' in response. Andy looked at Maya with a smile and walked over to her Captain.

"Hey Mai, you never called or messaged last night to tell me why you left yesterday morning," Sne said to Maya quietly knowing that Maya didn't like her business to be everyone else's business. Maya looked down knowing Andy had asked her to tell her what was going on because she still cared about her. While they had spent so much time battling it out to be Captain of 19 and eventually drifted apart there was still a part of both women that cared for one another.

"Sorry Andy, yesterday was just a lot. It was so busy and I had so much that I had to deal with and take care of that I completely forgot. I am really sorry." Maya rambled, feeling like she owed Andy an explanation as to why she didn't call or text.

"It's okay Maya, I am just worried. You never leave a shift, the only time you have ever not been at work was that time you went away with Carina. What happened?" Andy questioned as she and Maya began to make their way to the Captain's office. Once they were in the office Maya began to speak.

"My niece showed up at Grey-Sloan two days ago. She was running, my dad was making her run, she collapsed. And I am so fucking pissed, I am pissed at my dad becuse he's hurt her. She is so small Andy, she is 13 but I swear she looks like she is 9. And the moment I got the call saying that I needed to come in because of the possibility of a 4 or 5 alarm, my heart sank. I didn't want to come in, I wanted to stay with Kassidy and Carina. When I left I could hear Kassidy crying," Maya spoke, emotions clear in her voice.

"You have a niece?"
"Yeah, her name is Kassidy. I love her so much, and as messed up as it sounds, part of me feels like it is fixing what happened with Mason," Maya said looking down.

"It isn't fucked up Maya. That little girl is your brother's daughter, and she needs you Maya. I know you, when you set your mind to something you will do it. You will make sure that she has an amazing home, one that is safe. The type of home that you needed when you were her age. And if you ever need anything you and Carina and Kassidy have an entire fire station backing you," Andy spoke knowing that everything that she was saying was true.

Maya looked at Andy, tears in her eyes. A knock on the door broke the pair out of their conversation, Vic entered and looked over at Maya. The woman's eyes filled with concern as she looked over to Maya. "Maya your dad is here to see you,"

Both Vic and Andy watched as her face went pale, the look in the blondes eyes was one of pure fear. It was something that neither of the women had ever seen before from their blonde friend. "Do you want me to tell him that you are busy?" Vic said looking at the blonde after she closed the door to the office.

Maya shook her head before looking at the door. Part of her didn't want to go out there and face him, but he knew she had to otherwise he would go to the hospital to look for Kassidy. So she left the room and was met with the face of a very pissed off Lane Bishop.

"What are you doing here dad?" Maya asked, trying to sound more confident than she truly felt.

"Where the hell is she, Maya?"

"I don't know what you're talking about?" Maya said, trying to play dumb with her father, in order to keep her niece safe.

Lane Stalked over to Maya grabbing hold of her wrist pulling her closer to himself. "Don't talk like that to me you ungrateful brat! Where the hell is Kassidy?" Lane's voice was low and threatening, one that Maya had ingrained into her brain from all the times that he had used it with her when she was younger.

"Hey! Get your hands off of her!" She heard a voice yell, it was a male voice which caused Maya to flinch once again, coming from the stairs that led up to the beanery. Maya looked over and saw Dean and Jack coming down the stairs and running over to her and her father. Once they were there Dean pulled Lane off of Maya while Jack pulled Maya away from her father's hold and guided her into the Captain's office where Vic and Andy were able to take her.

Maya's body was shaking as Andy and Vic pulled her into a tight embrace, all three women could hear the yelling of Maya's father and of the attempts of Dean and Jack trying to get the man to leave. Maya brought her hands to her ears trying to block out the yelling, tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"Maya, did he hurt you?" Vic asked, looking at her terrified friend and at the ugly red marks that were on the blondes wrists. Both Andy and Vic knew that Carina was going to be pissed when she found out about what happened.

After almost 40 minutes there was a knock on the door, which made Maya jump and gripp on to Andy's hand tightly. Dean and Jack walked into the office and saw the terrified look on Maya's face which soon changed into panic.

"I need to go! I have to go to the hospital!" Maya exclaimed, starting to stand up to run to Grey-Sloan.

"Maya, sit down for a minute," Jack said, trying to convince the blonde that she needed to stay even if it was just for a few moments. "Your dad is gone, he left. You are okay now. Do you want me to call Carina to come and get you?"

"No, I need to go to Grey-Sloan. I- I have to go!" Maya spoke quickly, the panic evident in her voice as she looked around.

"Okay Maya, we will go to Grey-Sloan. Just let me take you okay. Let me take you to Kassidy and Carina," Andy told her friend taking her hand and guiding her captain out to her car to taake her back to Grey-Sloan,"

the rest of the team who were in the office were left in a state of confusion as they watched Andy and Maya leave for Grey-Sloan.
