Chapter Twenty Eight- Maya

Maya hadn't realised how much everything was taking its toll on her until she woke up in the middle of the night covered in sweat and with her heart pounding in her chest. Carina had woken up almost immediately after Maya woke up, it was clear that the blonde was distressed. Carina had been through this a few times before with Maya. The blonde would wake up suddenly in the middle of the night from a nightmare, which would soon develop into the blonde spiralling into a state of panic. Her mind still in its heightened state of anxiety, flinched violently when Carina wrapped her arms around the blonde. Carina moved behind her, arms still wrapped around Maya.

"You're okay bambina, you're okay," Carina spoke softly, placing a kiss on the blonde's shoulder. The blonde let out a sob, her body still shaking and heart pounding in her chest.

"I know Bella, I know. Take a big breath for me Bella," Carina said before mimicking some deep breaths in the hope that it would help the blonde get control over her breathing.

It took almost an hour before Maya had calmed down, her body still shaking slightly but she was calm for the most part. Carina was still sitting behind the blonde, placing a kiss on her temple every once in a while, which reassured the blonde that she was still there.

"I-I think I need to talk to Diane." Maya whispered, turning her head slightly to look Carina in the eyes.

"That's okay, Bella. We can call Diane in the morning okay, it is three am. Lets try and go back to bed and we will call Diane in the morning." Carina spoke softly to Maya, before getting the blonde to lay down on her.

Maya let out a shaky breath and nodded before trying to relax on top of Carina, it took a little while but she eventually fell asleep in Carina's embrace, hoping that she wouldn't wake up from any more nightmares throughout the rest of the night.

When Maya woke up the following morning, she was greeted with the sight of Kassidy and Carina quietly talking to one another. She realised that she must have rolled off of Carina in the middle of the night, but she was grateful that she hadn't woken up again but she was also glad that she hadn't woken Kassidy up during the night when she had the nightmare. Kassie didn't need to see that.

"Morning," Maya said, arching her back as she tried to stretch while not disturbing her girls.

"Good morning Mo- Maya." Kassidy smiled, as she clambered over the top of Carina wanting to have cuddles with Maya. The older blonde took note of the fact that Kassie had almost called her Mommy again. She knew that she couldn't forse the girl to call her 'Mommy' or 'Mom' but that didn't make her want it any less. It was slightly shocking, she had never imagined herself being anyone's mom but here she was praying that one day Kassidy would call both her and Carina 'Mommy' and 'Mamma' permanently.

"Good morning baby, did you sleep okay?" Maya asked, stroking Kassidy's hair.

" I slept well, did you?" Kassie asked, giving Maya a look.

"I didn't sleep great, but Carina helped," Kassidy nodded before snuggling into Maya more. Carnia smiled at them before telling them that she was going to go and make breakfast. The blonde knew she would have to get up with Kassie soon because she knew that she needed to call Diane, and they were going to try and go out to get some more things for Kassie, as what they had was all mostly stuff that had been given to them by friends from both the hospital and at the Station. They really hadn't had the time or been in the Place to go out. But knowing that Dr Kellie wanted Kassie to challenge herself by leaving the house and going into a public place.

After a while of laying together the two blonde's eventually got up and made their way into the kitchen where Carina seemed to be cooking eggs, knowing that it was one of the easier breakfasts for Kassie to eat especially when it was going to be a stressful day. Once everything had finished cooking, the family sat around the table and began to eat. Carina and Maya began to explain what they were going to be doing during the day.
