Carina walked into her office after another delivery, both mamma and the two babies that she delivered were healthy. To say that Carina was exhausted from running from one delivery to the next would be an understatement, but she was also glad there were so many deliveries today, because that meant she wasn't a wreck worrying about Kassidy.
Carina sat at her desk for all of five minutes before her phone started to ring, she felt her heart race slightly. It could only be one of a handful of people, it was either going to be Maya, someone from Kassidy school, Someone from the station, Andrea or Gabri. She knew it wasn't going to be Maya or someone from the team as they were on a call, as Maya had messaged her that she was being called out, that also ruled out the rest of the team at the station. She also knew that it wasn;t going to be Andrea as she had just passed him on the way to her office. That only left Gabri or Kassidy's school. Carina picked up the phone.
"Hello?" Carina said into the speaker.
"Hello, is this Doctor DeLuca?" A voice that she didn't recognise came through the other end of the phone. That ruled out Gabri.
"Yes, who is this?"
"I am Clara Parker, the nurse at Stratford Middle school. I have Kassidy with me at the moment, one of her teachers brought her down to the nurses office after finding her having a panic attack. We think it is best that she is sent home for today," the nurse explained to the Italian on the other end of the phone.
"Dio mio, I will be there to pick her up as soon as possible," Carina said, before gathering her things and hanging up the phone. The Italian quickly made her way to the chief's office, to tell her that she needed to leave to go and pick up Kassie. Once she had let Bailey know that she needed to leave, she made her way to the school. She had tried calling Maya to let her know what had happened, but the blonde didn't pick up, which led Carina to believe that she was still out on a call.
Once she pulled into the school's parking lot, she took a moment to calm herself, knowing full well that if she was stressed or anxious when she walked in it would cause Kassidy to become even more anxious then she already would be currently.
She walked into the office and was met with the face of an older woman, who looked to be in her late 60s.
"Excuse me, I am here to pick up Kassidy Bishop? I'm Carina DeLuca, I was called and told that she needed to be picked up," Carina said, the woman looked at her and gave a small smile.
"Ah yes, Dr DeLuca. We spoke on the phone. I'm Clara Parker. If you just like to follow me I will bring you to her," the woman said, motioning for Carina to follow.
Carina followed Clara to the nurses office, once the door was open and she could see in the room a small smile appeared on her face. Kassie sat next to two girls, one on either side of her and then a boy sat on the floor in front of the three girls. Kassie was letting both girls hold her hands and they listened as the boy read from a book that was in his lap.
"They haven't left her side since she came in," Clara said startling Carina out of her thoughts, "She's found some of the good ones,"
Carina smiled and nodded before entering the room, knocking on the door to alert the teens of her presence. Kassidy looked over and saw Carina and ran to her, wrapping her arms around her waist and burying her face into her Mamma's light pink scrubs.
"Ciao, Bambina," Carina said as she stroked the blondes hair back, "Let's go, we are going to see Mommy at the station,"
Kassidy nodded, face still buried wanting to be close to Carina. The three other teens were still in the room and were watching the interaction between Carina and Kassidy. Carina smiled at them, showing them that she was grateful for what they had done for Kassidy. She was grateful that they had stayed and looked after her as much as they could, and she knew that May would be grateful as well.
