Almost two weks after the five alarm, everything was almost back to normal. Maya and Carina had had a talk with wone another about what had happened the day of the five alarm, the brunnette explained about the anxiety that came rushing to the front of her mind whenever Maya go called out to a five alarm, and that while she understood that Maya loved her job it still brought her large amounts of anxiety which seemed to overflow when the blonde fire captain left suddenly. Kassie eemed to be doing okay after Maya and Carina sat down with her and explained what had happened and how things will work if Carina is at work and Maya gets called in for a five alarm.

Now as they were in the middle of May, nearing the beginning of June, Maya and Carina had begun planning on what they were going to be doing over the summer as well as the fact that Kassie birthday was quickly approaching. Maya didn't know how to approach the subject with Kassie, knowing that birthdays were always miserable when they were spent with Lane Bishop, and Maya could only imagine the things that Kassie would have had to go through while living with him.

As Maya and Carina stood in the kitchen prepping dinner, while Kassidy was in her room doing home work, Maya decided to approach the subject with Carina first to get her opinion on everything to do with Kassie's birthday.

"Car?" Maya asked, her voice quiet in the hopes that she could would be able to keep this from Kassie for a little bit longer.

"Sì Bambina?" Carina replied looking at Maya confused as to why she was whispering.

"Kassie's birthday is comin up on the 10th of June," she said, her voice still in a hushed whisper, "I don't knoe what we should do for her birthday."

"What do you mean bella?" Carina asked, she knew that Kassie's birthday was coming up but she was confused about why Maya was struggleing to think of something to do for Kassie's birthday.

"Birthdays weren't ever really a good thing growing up, I can't imaging what Kassie would have had to go through," Maya began looking Carina, "He would make us run more because he said that we could handle it because we were older. I remember when I turened 17, it must have been the weekend because I didn't go to school, he made me run all day. He said that because I was now a year older i should be able to run more, run faster. But there isn't anyway I could have run faster from the day before to that day. I don't know what he would have done to Kassie."

"That's not right Bambina, he should't have ever made you do that. But I think the best thing we can do for Kassie is sit down with her and talk about what we could do for her birthday and see what she wants to do and from then we can make plans," Carina said softly looking over at Maya, "If you want we can bring it up to Kassidy later?"

Maya nodded as she and Carina continued to finish up making dinner. The pair worked quietly and in a comfortable silence. Once they had finished making dinner and they called Kassie who came running out of her room, with Romeo not far behind.

"Kassidy don't run in the house please!" Maya called out once she saw the blonde running throught the hall.

The small girl quickly stopped and looked down, before speaking, "Sorry Mommy,"

Maya sighed, knowing the way she had spoken came out a bit harsher than she had intended it to.

"Your not in trouble Bubs, i just dont want you to trip and get hurt. Okay?"

"Yes mom," Kassie responded.

The family all sat down to eat, all of the family talking about their day. Kassie told Maya and Carina about he day at school and various pieces of homework that she had done and the few bits that she still had to do.

"How are your friends bubba?" Maya asked.

"Good, Brodie and Hudson were telling me about how they are going away over the summer," Kassie explained, "But Lucie wasn't in today again. She hasn't been in for three days. This isn't the firat time either, she's disappeared before and then comes back like nothing happened."
