It had been a week since Kassidy had been admitted to the hospital, it had been a week since Maya, Carina or Kassidy had been home to the apartment. In the seven days that Kassidy had been in the hospital she had started to improve, she had begun eating one meal normally, and was also managing one or two snacks; however this wasn't without a struggle. But she was starting to improve, she was taking baby steps and was moving forward, and both Maya and Carina were grateful and proud of their girl, knowing that this was in no way easy for her. But they were also aware that she may go backward so for now they were celebrating the wins that their girl had.
Maya and Kassidy seemed to be doing as well as they could be, Carina was struggling though. The Italian had made it her duty to be the one to try and look after everyone, She was constantly trying to make sure both Maya and Kassie were okay, and was neglecting to take care of herself. It worried Maya, knowing that her girlfriend was running herself ragged, knowing that sooner or later it would end up catching up with the Italian, so the blonde wanted to put a stop to it in the hopes that she would be able to help her girlfriend before she burnt herself out and wouldn't be able to help anyone.
Maya and Carina were sitting in Kassidy's room, the small girl asleep in the bed after just having a session with Dr Kellie. Maya had taken residence sitting on Carina's lap which seemed to stop the brunette from moving around the hospital room like she had been most of the day. It was shocking to Maya, as she had always been the one who was wanting to move around, not Carina. It was like the roles had been reversed.
The blonde looked at the brunette that she was currently sitting on, she watched as her hands moved which was a clear sign that she was anxious. The blonde began to speak to her girlfriend, "Car?"
The Italian looked at her girlfriend and tilted her head to the side silently asking what the blonde needed. Carina's mind felt like it was spinning, she hadn't stopped in nearly a week.
"Are you okay, my love?" The blonde started, "You are constantly moving and seem anxious. You need to take care of yourself too, not just Kassie and I. You need to look after yourself, Carina. Let me look after all of us, let me carry everything for a little while,"
Carina's eyes filled with tears as she listened to her girlfriend. Carina hadn't realised how tired she truly was, she had spent so much time trying to make sure that everyone was okay and not let herself process anything that had happened over the past week. The tears that the Italian had tried to hold back began to fall down her cheeks. Maya pulled her into her chest, trying to comfort her girlfriend, knowing that everything was finally catching up with her. The brunette was finally letting it catch up with her, the fear, the anxiety, the anger and the sadness all caught up with her.
Being in the hospital with a family member constantly terrified her, she remembered going to the hospital with her Mamma after her stroke. She remembered hearing them call time of death on Mamma she remembered so much but so little of it at the same time. It was honestly confusing how the brian works, how it was able to block out so much but the smallest things could trigger unknown memories.
Carina had spent her fair share of time in hospitals, not only when her Mamma died but with her father and her brother and now she was here with her girlfriend and her niece. It was rather ironic that her profession caused her to work in a hospital, considering how much she disliked being in them.
Carina continued to cry, and eventually had excused herself to the point where she fell asleep. Maya sighed looking at her girlfriend and stood up from where she had been sitting on her girlfriend's lap and gently scooped her up into her arms and began to move her over to the cot that was in Kassidy's room that they had been sharing over the past week and left her to sleep.
