Chapter 33 Sunny's Lantern Missing

Late at night a loud clang from outside woke Zipp up "Huh?!" she said she took a quick look around the room to see all of us still asleep with a yawn Zipp opened the window and thought see saw the outline of a pony in the garden "Huh? Ugh, is somepony down there?" she asked she got no response but the whistling of the wind "I must be dreaming" she said closing the window In the morning Zipp awoke saw everypony else had gone already and flew down form her raised bed to the ground "Morning, investigation board. Morning, rad visor" she said walked to the door but then stopped "Morning... lantern?!" she ran over to the case to see the lantern gone "It's... I-It's gone!" she said horrified Sunny and I were in the kitchen Zipp then threw herself in front of us and yelled "Hope" is gone!" " What?!" we both said "I mean, the "Hope Lantern"! It's not in its case! And it's not here with you! Which means it's missing! Which means I gotta find it! It could already be too late! Did you know that the first few hours after a crime are critical for clues?!" exclaimed Zipp "Zipp, wait! I'm sure I just left the lantern somewhere in the Brighthouse" said Sunny "Plus who in there right mind steals a lantern with out known how powerful it is?" I said "Oh yeah. Cool. Cool, cool. But just to be sure..." said Zipp we all decided to look around for it "You were right! It's nowhere! Ugh... How can my special lantern be nowhere?! Oh, this is bad! This is really bad! Besides the Unity Crystals, that lantern is the most important thing in the Brighthouse! It contains magic pris-beam power! What are we gonna do?!" said Sunny "Only one thing to do" said Zipp she the dawned her detective gear "Detective Zipp on the case!" Zipp started to scan and combing the Brighthouse she looked in the fridge and saw a half eaten apple "Oh, yeah! There was definitely some kind of fiend in this house! I mean, who does this?!" she said closing the door Izzy then opened it "Oh, the rest of my apple!" she said taking a bite "So good" she said Zipp moved to the bedroom and noticed the outline of the base of the lantern on the draws next to Sunny bed "Ha! Just as I suspected! This outline is the exact diameter of the lantern's base!" she then touched the dirt "And what's this? Dirt!" she licked it "Hmm... The same kind of dirt that's used in the community garden. Interesting. Did I just taste dirt?" she said realizing what she just did Pipp of singing on the ground floor "So put your hooves up high 'Cause we're feelin' all right Every day is awesome in the Mare" she sang Zipp the yelled at her "Wait! Don't take another step!" she said Pipp lift herself into the air to fly "What are you doing?" she asked "This is an active crime scene! Can't have you contaminating the evidence!" said Zipp "A real-life mystery? What's the crime?" asked Pipp "Sunny's lantern has gone missing" said Zipp "I am shook! How can I help?" said Pipp "No help needed. I've got this investigation under control" said Zipp she take out her phone and took notes "No sign of forced entry. Huh." she said Pipp then saw Zipp's cutie mark glowing "Your cutie mark! Wow, I guess you really do have this under control. Well, I should just leave you to it then, detective "Have fuuuun!" she sang flying out she flew down to the garden took a quick selfie the tripped over something "Ow! Ow! What in the hay?! Hmm?" said Pipp looking the down she saw a brown bag half buried in the ground Pipp pulled the bag out and tipped the contested out and Sunny's lantern fell out "Lantern?" she questioned "What are you doing out here?" she said blowing some of the dirt off it "Aw, yay. Zipp will be so excited you aren't missing after all" Pipp flew back to the door of the Brighthouse and glanced inside she saw Zipp scans and really getting in to this crime "Aww... But she already looks so happy. If I give it to her, her fun will be over. I guess the lantern doesn't need to be found right now" she said she flew back to the grand and put a hoof print next to the hole "And for a little extra mystery, some of my all-new Pipp-brand wing glitter!" she said sprinkling some glitter "There! The perfect clue to have Zipp on the lantern's trail to me in no time. So fun! I am really good at this I should plan a mystery party! ' she said Misty hide behind the side of the Brighthouse and sneaked but into the garden and saw the lantern gone "What?! It was right here! I buried it right here! Ugh! Somepony found it! Oh, why did I think burying it was enough to keep it hidden?! Why do I always panic and do the wrong thing? Opaline's gonna be so angry when she finds out! But... not if I can find it again first!" monologed Misty "Misty?" came a voice Misty gasped then saw me "Sorry didn't mean to scary you What are you doing here?" I asked "Me? Oh! I was... uh..." she tried to speak "On second thought I don't care but I'm glad your here" I said "What" said Misty I took out a piece of paper and handed it to her "Here's my phone number so if you ever need somepony to talk to or just listen I'm always available" I said she blushed "I thank you" I nodded and then flew off Misty continued to look around the garden this time Zipp found her "Misty What are you doing here" she asked "Me? Oh! I was... uh... I was just filling in this hole left by uh, gophers! Yup! Silly gophers! Leaving holes everywhere! Wouldn't want somepony to trip!" she said nervously "Huh... This hole is too wide for a gopher. But it is just wide enough to hide a lantern! And I don't think any gopher would be leaving a hoofprint like that, do you? Glitter? Is it a magical remnant? Maybe this hoofprint belongs to an Earth pony who was trying to grow something here. Or maybe it belongs to... the lantern thief!" conclude Zipp Misty gasped "Lantern? What's that? I've never even seen one of those! Bye!" said Misty bolting away "Well, she was acting totally weird. But that tracks" said Zipp taking out her phone "Update – no solid leads yet. But somepony out there in town must have some answers" said Zipp flying of to town
